What are the effects of pollution on the environment? Why does it matter? All around the world, fossil fuels, such as oil, coal, and natural gas are burned and used to heat homes, run vehicles, power industry and manufacturing, and provide electricity. Even though fossil fuels provide many benefits to humans way of living, they also have many detrimental impacts on the environment and ecosystems, and even to humans. When these fossil fuels are burned, they release a gas called carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat into the atmosphere, in a process known as the greenhouse effect, “which has been attributed to be the major cause of global warming” (“Shift to electric cars”). Global warming is the idea that because of the excessive …show more content…

A great renewable energy source would be that of the sun, which can be utilized using solar panels, which capture the energy from the sun. According to a National Geographic documentary, it would require approximately 100,000 square miles, or about 10 percent of the state of Nevada, to power the entire United States using solar energy (“Renewable Energy”). If we have the land, why shouldn’t it be used to give clean power to the United States, and used in other countries in need of energy. Solar energy is a great alternative because the sun is already providing enough energy to the earth in one hour to power the entire world for a year, so why not utilize this clean energy source (“Renewable Energy"). Another great renewable energy source would be that of wind power. One wind turbine produces enough energy to power over 700 homes (“Renewable Energy”). Wind turbines utilize the natural air currents of the Earth to spin a turbine that produces energy. Both of these renewable energies produce no additional pollutants into the atmosphere and utilize the natural energy that the Earth already
