AARI Embroidery is also known as Adda Work. It is the embellishment of a fabric with threads, accessories and sometimes with other decorative elements. Embroidery is the handicraft of decorating fabric or other materials with needle and thread or yarn. Embroidery may also incorporate other materials such as metal strips, pearls, beads, quills, and sequins. Embroidery is available with a wide variety of threads. Aari work is very intricate form of embroidery but is quicker to do then the basic hand embroidery and also the effect is more rich, durable and luxurious.

Origin and History

Adda work is a style of embroidery that has its earliest mentions in Vedic literatures, the Ramayana, and the Mahabharata. The most opulent form of Indian embroidery is the Zari and the Zardozi, known since the late 16th century, brought in India by the mighty Moghuls. The word Zardozi comes from the two Persian words Zar=gold and Dozi=embroidery. This form uses metallic thread.
Zardozi is either a synonym or a more elaborate version of zari where the gold or silver embroidery is embellished with pearls and precious stones, gota and kinari, making this art only affordable by rich people.
