Adaptation of Skeletal Muscle Fiber to Endurance Training Endurance exercise, also known as Aerobic exercise, is any kind of activity that increases someone’s heart rate and/or breathing rate. (Heart, n.d.) Endurance exercise, such as, swimming and running, keeps the lungs, the heart, and the circulatory system healthy and improves someone’s fitness altogether. (Heart, n.d.) Skeletal muscle adaption is determined by the intensity and the duration of a specific exercise. (Home, n.d.) Muscles must adapt to the Aerobic exercise in order to provide more effective energy. (Muscle Adaption, n.d.) When endurance exercise is regularly performed, significant adaptations are induced on the skeletal muscle. (Holloszy, 1984) An organelle called the Mitochondrion is known as the “powerhouse” for cells because it is responsible for producing Adenosine Triphosphate through the process of cellular respiration. Due to the large increase in obesity and disease rates due to being overweight, it is very important to take advantage of the opportunity to be able to reap from these good benefits.
