2.0 INTRODUCTION The study of the previous temperature gauge cooling system for the original equipment manufacturer (OEM), it fitted on most vehicles that only display the temperature changes of the engine temperature. From the study, the system has been made to get the idea to make innovation of the temperature monitoring system. The development of the temperature monitoring system will be using ‘Easy fit’ heat temperature sensor, friendly user and easy for the user to use and monitor the temperature and also alarm the user if the temperature reach the highest temperature set-point that the user will set. In this chapter, it will explain the concept and study about the cause of engine overheating, the consequence of engine overheating, …show more content…

A low coolant level, inoperative coolant fan, clogged in radiator hose or defective of the radiator cap are also the causes of engine overheating.

2.2 THE CONSEQUENCE OF ENGINE OVERHEATING The consequence of engine overheating is not only give troubles to the vehicle but it also cost expensive damage to repair the engine. If the engine overheating, it may start to rattle and lose power and if the overheat continues, the rings, pistons and rod bearings will damage. As the engine become hotter, the pistons will expand until there is no more room for it to expand and it will scrape against the piston and cylinder that cause them to damage. Other than that, engine overheating can cause the head gasket to blown. Thermal stress will make the head to distort and restricted the coolant flow inside the engine. The aluminium head will expand mostly in the middle engine block, that can crush the head gasket if it get too hot. It will cause the head gasket to loss compression between adjacent cylinder. Lastly, if the radiator become rusty, it also leads to engine overheat and cause it to burst because it restricted the cooling system to flow in the engine and damage the engine and
