Today, nobody is able to predict with any degree of certainty or accuracy what our society will look like in the future. Engineers have a role in planning our society’s future and makes our society better. Engineers from the past had planned for today technology and they had done a good job because today technology makes our life better but still there are certain error that cannot be solved. So, engineers in this era have to think new solutions that help our communities. The main topic is how can engineers make a significant contribution to society ten, twenty or forty years into the future.
Firstly, engineers can work together to create a new technology. This is an important thing because from years to years, people asked for a new technology that makes them better in their life. It is hard to create a new technology because technology needs specification, plan, testing and give benefit to

Sometimes, the problem that have to be fixed regularly are costly and this can makes a country have to spend the money only to fix the problem and not to develop the country. The cost to fix any technology are not cheap compare to other problems because we need to find the source of the problems. Maybe the things we need to fix the problem need to import from other country. So, engineers have to study more about the latest technology, find or get the solutions from other engineers that have more experience and discuss together with other engineers because engineers work in team. If the engineers already find the solution, this will give the society benefit towards their life. This is what the society expect from the engineers and engineers have to do their work for them. The solutions that have been found by the engineer maybe can last long for 20 years and this will make them to study the problem form time to time to get a better
Everyone has the same purpose. That purpose being to fix, design, or create something for a common goal. This is the usual when dealing with technology and its advancements. I believe that engineers are judged more on their work and abilities than on their appearance which is how it should be in any field. Engineers also can go nearly anywhere and find a job.
855 words Modern Technology: Promising a Future of Doom or Life? Modern technology will affect human life in the coming future, for better or for worse. Ray Kurzweil is a futurist, a scientist who specializes in predictions about the future. In his essay “Promise and Peril”, he proposes possible advantages and disadvantages of technological improvement in the world, and mentions greatness of technology that not only benefits human life, but also the dangers of its existence.
What is an engineer? An engineer is someone who uses math and science to design and build solutions to problems. When most people think of engineers, they don’t picture women in this role. In fact, only 11% of engineers in the United States are women.
Unlike Utilitarian ethics, a consequentialist moral theory, or Kantian ethics, a moral theory based on the alignment of one’s will and one’s duty, Aristotle’s Virtues Ethics does not discuss morality of single actions but rather “what sort of person should one be? What does it mean to live a good life?” This is important for engineers to ask a similar question in their professional career, “What does it mean to be a good engineer?” because they impact society’s ability to innovate and progress technologically, while maintaining or increasing society’s quality of life. The effects engineers have has been discussed in class, including examples like the development of the lightbulb, radio, and concrete.
Typically, when one thinks engineer they tend to think of designing mechanical marvels
A virtue is a desirable characteristic rather than a universal law or rule that should ultimately lead to individual flourishment as well as the betterment of humanity. Incidentally, engineers can use virtues such as competence, honesty, and temperance in order to attain a state of responsible professionalism. This status essentially parallels some of the claims listed in the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) Engineering Code of Ethics such as the statement “an engineer, in the fulfillment of their professional duties, shall hold paramount the safety, health, and welfare of the public” (NSPE, 2007). With an inherent desire to be virtuous, engineers can learn to better themselves in order to better society. In this paper, through Aristotle’s understanding of virtue ethics, I plan to demonstrate the virtues I have acquired during my time at Texas A&M University and the virtues specifically relevant to civil engineering.
Technological advancements are some of the major reasons why we advance as a society but we have to look deeper at these advancements. While some advancements may compliment jobs they also replace others.
1.1 Background of the Research Technology has always develop for a long time. Until today, it is still develops at a stunning pace. As a matter of fact, technology has touched every aspect of life; from the way we move by using a horse changed into automobile, from walking on the land to flying in the air and reach farther distance. The products we are using in our daily life also produced by the technology. Under those circumstances, including the economy, politics, and also society, are affected by technology.
Governor’s School Essay Response Ever since I was young you could always find me toying around with objects trying to figure out how they worked. Taking them apart, studying them, and then reconstructing them back together was a usual past time for me. Looking back I realized that all of the time I spent on learning how something worked was the foundation that flourished into my passion for engineering.
The world is ever changing through technological advances, innovative ideas and a need to further advance our society. Innovation has become an essential part of society. Individual viewpoints have been provided to understand concepts leading to improvement however the most prevailing viewpoints being that of Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler. To get a predominant cognizance of these thoughts, it is fundamental to take a look at and get these three viewpoints and the crucial part they play in depicting the improvement for development. Gerhard Lenski specified that technological progress is the motivation behind civilization evolving throughout history.
It has become apparent throughout time that moral conflicts are constantly challenging engineers. Whether it is related to infamous incidents that led to the downfall of professionals or the daily obstacles that engineers face, moral excellence is of the utmost importance in any field. Intellectual and character virtues, as exemplified in the philosophical context, are essential to engineering ethics. Of these virtues, engineers should strive for honesty, courage and fairness. Achieving the aforementioned moral excellences will allow engineers to conduct good judgments and commitment to their professional life.
Basically it is because even though we are developing, we are This planet earth that we are living on is also one the factor of why I choose to be an engineer. Back then, human being used to live in a proper environment, lesser pollution and vary sources of energy. However, as we all know that time has changed everything, we are running out of energy. For me, the most important thing for engineer to discuss is to create new sources of energy without affecting our world. This have hurt enough and instead of hurting it more we should healing it.
In utilitarian and Kantian view of ethics, such virtuous values are not taken into consideration. This short paper suggests how future engineers should apply the virtues and excellences in their fields and why virtuous engineers are more likely to contribute to society and make it better. In Aristotle’s view, virtue(arête) is defined as an essential factor to achieve happiness of an individual, while happiness(eudaimonia) is defined as an ultimate objective of human-being. Aristotle insisted that the order of priority may decide whether one’s goal should be considered as a means or the goal itself.
THE FUNCTION OF ENGINEERS IN PROTECTING THE SOCIETY 1. MEANING OF ENGINEERING We often use the words “science and technology” for engineering. what can be done by engineers with science and technology? Researchers think about it and do some research which resulted in the understanding that engineering is about planning and designing something that helps society by regulating science and technology.
However, we tend to ignore it because of we are too cozy on what we have in the present not minding all the problems left in us. This is why new inventions are hardly accepted due to our mindset and our belief. Moreover, the moral lesson linked to this situation is that we should always think on how to make can I make it better? As a Lasallian engineer, we should always think on how to make it better despite of the trials for it will make us even wiser and
