As we continue on with life, our environment continues to face many issues over time. While these issues can progressively get worse; I find that global organizations can instill good practices in order to protect our ecosystem. From what I learned environmental organizations help promote conservation methods and delves deep into researching specific disciplines, whether that may be about climate change or biodiversity. Many of these organizations tend to help all over the world to help provide a better planet to live on. One organization that does this is The International Union for Conservation of Nature.
As the name states, IUCN is an environmental organization that contributes internationally. According to Fur Institute of Canada, it operates

More specifically, it delves into research in many disciplines, such as biodiversity, climate change, gender, economics, ecosystem management, endangered species, environmental law, etc. (IUCN). This organization has scientists that conduct research on how to improve our environment and protect it. An example of this could be IUCN’s Red list. The Red list consists of specific information of endangered species and data collected by research. According to the site, it evaluates the extinction risk of each species and has documented over 5,400 species (IUCN Red List). The database itself could also be used for educational purposes and for other kinds of research. For example, a study done by Petrovan and Schmidt wanted to study how volunteer conservation impacted the population for the common toad. While they did not use volunteers from IUCN, they used a lot of data about the toad from IUCN’s red list about endangered species. This indicates that IUCN can be knowledge and their research in science can help with other studies. In addition to that, the organization also has more databases: red list of ecosystems, invasive species database, human dependency of nature, etc. These databases also provide educational input and tries to promote conversation efforts to its audience in hopes of them realizing how much organisms mean to our …show more content…
According to the IUCN red list website, it states that thousands of volunteers and assist with the Species Survival Commission. An article by IUCN in 2017 states that they already have been funded for 10 research projects in collaboration with African Wildlife Initiative. One of their goals is to reduce conflict between humans and wildlife, and hope they can promote conservation methods for living.
Another example is projects done like these are a great way to involve civilians into aiming to help conserve to create a better planet. Since IUCN offers so many disciplines, it allows the person to pick an area of their interest and gain exposure to research. Not only that, their contribution helps immensely in gathering data and continuing to expand the organization’s efforts of protecting our environment. Lastly, the International Union of Conservation of Nature takes a great deal in avocadacy. It influences not only regular civilians but stakeholders and governments as well. Since the organization has large connections to several governments and stakeholders. They end up promoting their mission through them. According to the website, IUCN has many partnerships with many government and non governmental organizations. Some examples of IUCN’s work with these organizations is displayed and brings a large amount of
For example, Jacqueline Haymond and Donal Hook, two members of Clemson University’s Department of Forest Resources complied research with William Harms of the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service on the impact Hugo had on forest management throughout the state in their Hurricane Hugo: South Carolina Forest Land Research and Management Related to the Storm. Plan of
The Sierra Club is a nonprofit environmental organization. It was founded in 1892 by John Muir. The Club’s mission statement is, To explore, enjoy, and protect the wild places of the earth; To practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources; To educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment; and to use all lawful means to carry out these objectives. (Sierra Club, n.d.-a) The Club promotes environment preservation by encouraging green energy, mitigating global warming, and opposing the use of fossil fuels.
Organizations like the Council of Federated Organization
How can one become one with their environment? Connection with one 's environment was always easier to maintain until the industrial age came into existence. With the birth of modern society came the birth of social responsibilities and burdens unknown to man. In “The Way to Rainy Mountain” and “A place for literature,” Barry Lopez and N. Momaday Momaday explain the impact of lands on its occupants. In “the white heron,” Sarah Jewett explains the feeling of reconnection with one’s inner voice though nature.
The government has passed many conservation policies to protect animals, eco-systems, plants and trees itself and indigenous people’s way of life, but many of these policies get overlooked and require a lot of extra work. How it affects the rest of the world- This action is permanent, and all of the world is targeted as a potential setting for deforestation. It is predicted that the continuing action may result in very few rainforest across the entire globe. Cutting trees can also be harmful to our ozone layer, which protects earth from dangerous radiation.
Living life everyday in a monotonous mechanical fashion is considered a subpar style of life for many. In Small Frogs Killed on the Highway By James Wright, Wright conveys a message perfectly touching on the issue of taking chances. The speaker of the poem reflects on his past choices through describing frogs optimizing their opportunities by deciding to risk death and attempt to cross a road. Throughout the poem Wright uses objects riddled with either deeper meanings or dual meanings. Why are frogs latently compared to humans?
Throughout history many people have had a significant impact on the world. Some of these people impacted the world in a negative way while others focused on leaving a positive imprint on society. Aldo Leopold left an irrefutable signature in the world by leading the way in game management by making management plans and writing books about nature and wildlife. One quote from Aldo is “We abuse land because we regard it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a community to which we belong, we may begin to use it with love and respect.”
This exposure and education motivate people to protect the animals and provide entertainment. Zoos save endangered species by bringing them into a safe environment, where they are protected from poachers, habitat loss, starvation, and predators. “The Arabian Oryx was hunted to extinction in the wild. However, from just a handful of animals in captivity the species was brought back from the brink thanks the conservation efforts of Phoenix Zoo and others.
Moreover, zoos always respond to emergencies, such as deadly threats to one or another species, by providing specialists and establishing breeding and treatment programs (Borrell 9). Thereby, both articles express the opinion that zoos are important for conservation purposes as they provide a wide range of specialists and research data. More significantly, they react on emergencies and do their best to protect endangered
The intended audience for this website seemed to be for anyone willing to pitch in a dollar that wanted to take further action with helping the wildlife whether it was locally or nationally. Most of the information on the National Wildlife Federation website is based on opinion. For example, one of the statements they believe in is “Conservation on private land plays an essential role in supporting healthy fish and wildlife populations and providing and connecting their habitat.” While searching throughout this website no biased related opinions could be found. All of the information that is presented on the website is properly documented.
Well I have looked up the list of animals. I put them in groups. I found which animals were critically, endangered, vulnerable, and removed. I also looked up how many of these animals are left.
If zoos were really concerned, they would try to conserve animals in their natural habitat, “the only way to realistically stop extinction is to preserve the world’s habitat and ecosystems,” (Zoos n.p). While zoos may help a bit, there are better ways to help and learn from
Imagine you live in a world where there are no plants, forest, animals, or oceans all there is in where these things us to be is concrete, landfills of garbage, and buildings. This is what will transpire if we do not protect or wildlife, wildlife conservation is a very important situation as it helps keeps plants and animals off the endangered list. According to the World Wild Life organization there are twenty-six endangered animals and twenty-one critically endangered animals this is very overwhelming as animals are an important part of our environment and ecosystem. With human population increasing at an alarming rate, with the growing rate of humans there is going to be less land for animals and plants, more man-made pollution and plastic debris will go into the oceans, lakes, and streams.
In Dunn he talks about bringing nature to the communities that do not have access to nature. So a way to getting communities involved in conservation research is to have them implement projects that shows them how they are connected to nature like implementing bird
It has involved multiple stakeholders in areas such as environmental science, community development and planning, business entrepreneurship, social work, and environmental and social justice. Traditionally, the relationship between these stakeholders has been one of proximity, but not integration. Now there are calls for greater interdisciplinary focus and collaboration to meet the economic and societal needs of people that are environmentally more sustainable. There needs to be greater recognition among the different disciplines involved, that the link between the economy, society, and nature is intrinsically interdisciplinary. An interdisciplinary approach requires stakeholders to move beyond inflexible and traditional ways of thinking and problem-solving and embrace collaboration, creativity, innovation, and novel insights and perspectives.
