Jotirao Phule one of the earlier Dalit writers, wrote in his book Slavery that, there were hardly two or three Dalit newspapers and therefore, any new ideology could not flourish as low castes were completely ignorant of it. Phule also wrote that, in Poona, Editors of all Marathi newspapers were Bhramins, so there was no point that they were going to write anything bad against their own caste [6].
Exploitation on religious Grounds:
Caste system is very much prevalent in Hindu religion and that is perhaps the reason why many people converted to other religions. In Karukku, generations elder to the narrator also converted to Christianity in order to escape the oppression laid by upper caste Hindus. They probably were unaware of the fact that even after conversion, they are going to face the same problem of caste division and humiliation.
Lower castes barely got themselves any fruits; nevertheless, they brought it always on the occasion of New Year and Christmas for the church offering. In return, the sign of cross was placed across their foreheads [7]. This offering was not out of devotion rather force. Paraiyar people hardly had money for two square meals a day but they had to give this
The Quran (document 5) also says that “Whatever you may spend on others, or vow to spend, God knows it; and those who do wrong by withholding charity shall have no one to comfort them.” To receive any attention and reward from God, Muslims must be willing to give to charity. Giving charity to the poor is even one of the five pillars of Islam (the mandatory acts of Islam), so they would not be considered a true Muslim without giving to the poor. Document 6 also depicted traders giving gifts to the Buddha. Though money was important to the traders, they still put pleasing their religious leader and making themselves pure in their religion before keeping it.
The article, Decoding The Food And Drink On A Day Of The Dead Altar, states, “Sugar skulls, tamales and spirits (the alcoholic kind) - these are the offerings, or ofrendas, you might find on altars built this time of year to entice those who've passed to the other side back for a visit” (Farfan 1). Comparison and contrast between Buddhism and Hinduism Buddhism and Hinduism are two of the most ancient religions in the world today. It is unbelievable that Hinduism has been able to maintain its religion and culture for over 3,500 years and Buddhism for 2,800 years. Both Buddhism and Hinduism are originated from the Ganges culture of northern India during the second urbanisation in 500 B.C.E. They have shared the same beliefs that existed side by side and also some differences. Similarities Both Buddhism and Hinduism shared a strong belief in Samsara, which is an endless cycle of rebirth.
Rich vs. Wealthy Foods in the Elizabethan Era In the Elizabethan Era, there was a big gap between the wealthy and the poor, even in the food they ate. There were differences in their beverages, the quality of their food and what their daily meals and diets were. Upper and lower classes during this time ate very different foods. The website Elizabethan Food and Drink says, “Vegetables and fresh fruit were eaten by the poor - vegetables would have been included in some form of stew, soup or pottage.
While the majority of foods and drinks that existed during the Renaissance period are similar to what we find in our times, people of that era had significantly different beliefs about food and nutrition compared to today’s thinking. A lot of evidence points toward that fact with regards to social class distinctions and medical beliefs. Some students of that era hold the view that Renaissance meals and the way they were cooked resemble modern cooking styles and ingredients. “Renaissance cooks employed many of the same type of foodstuffs that are in use today, in addition to forms of food preparation familiar to any of us.”
It is high time, you treat yourself not with only food, clothes or any material thing, rather treat yourself with God’s word which is the food for your image (spirit) When it was time for Jesus to be crucified, those people who asked for Barabbas didn’t and couldn’t think to accept the fact that, this Jesus has brought nothing bad but good works on humanity. There were precious objects that were handed over willingly for the enjoyment of the gods; foodstuffs, metals, jade and shells were ritually buried. One of the most interesting offerings was the dough images of gods that were made from ground amaranth, human blood, and honey, which were burnt or eaten after the ceremony. There were battles like the Aztec flower war just to capture people to sacrifice—the most bravest or the most handsome were thought to be the best candidates to please the gods. Sacrifice was reserved for the most worthy, because it was considered an honor to have a direct communication with the gods. Ball games were also a source for more victims, because the losing team would have to give in to their destinies of sacrifice.
Poverty can adversely affect the population in so many ways. Families living in poverty can face emotional and social challenges, cognitive lacks and health and safety issues and acute and chronic stresses. Levels of stress increase with the economic circumstances. Subsequent poverty and job loss are associated with violence in families, including child and elder abuse. These families are also more likely to be exposed to illnesses, job loss, eviction, criminal victimization and family death.
The discussion on the social justice and injustice is one of the most important issues in cotemporary global scenario. New Oxford American Dictionary defines Social Justice as “justice in terms of the distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges within a society”2 (Wikipedia). Contrary to it where inequalities persist in the society it falls within the sweep of injustice. Merriam Webster Dictionary defines injustice as “unfair treatment: a situation in which the rights of a person or group of people are ignored”3 (Meriam- Webster). Thus it can be said that the concept of social justice takes the objectives of removing inequalities and affording equal opportunities to all citizens in social, economic and political spheres and social
How do you define the harshness of society? Inefficient policies all around the world and especially in our country are contributing to problems in the society.
