Filial piety is one of the most important virtues of Chinese culture and this virtue has been promoted for centuries. The majority of families follow the guidance of filial piety to make their household in a more disciplined and hierarchical manner. In eastern countries, it is extremely vital for the descendant to obey to this morality. Based on the situation, I believe that supporting my father is the right according to filial piety. So, I would not turn my father in, and I would protect him in any ways. Even concealing a crime from the authority is a felony, I would still do so to save my father. And a man without integrity is barely an upright person. Not telling the truth not only violate the law, but also go against uprightness. However, not turning in my father will not affect uprightness of a person. In fact, uprightness does not only contain honesty, it also includes many different moralities, like filiality and righteousness. Honesty is one of them. To define a person is upright or not, we should consider various components of uprightness. Most importantly, filial piety is the most crucial virtue in Chinese culture because families are the basis of a society. In ancient times, even the empire have to listen to his mother. Mencius also gave an example talking about filial piety and loyalty. He said that if a judge’s father killed a man, the judge should quit and leave with his father. Obviously, Mencius chose filial piety over loyalty. (Mencius, Book 7A, 35) It shows that filial piety is always the priority of other virtues. Also, the Master thinks "son should conceal for the father" is an upright action. In my case, I would choose to be a filial son rather than a loyal citizen to law. This presents that filial piety is accounting the majority of uprightness. Impartiality may be included in uprightness, but my action should be based on being a filial son since filial piety is over other morality in Chinese culture and it is considered as an upright
