Noisemaking and firecrackers are believed to have originated in ancient times. It is believed that noise and fire drive away bad spirits and bring blessings for God. The Chinese are credited for making firecrackers. Exploding them has become a tradition during the New Year Back when I was eleven, fire crackers were already widely used. New Year always started with a bang or sometimes multiple explosions. It was indeed a noisy New Year for every single family and neighborhood went out to light their “piccolo” or “triangle”.
