Causes : Food waste happens due to a lot of different causes and one of the causes is lack of storage facilities and infrastructure (FAO, 2011, p. 11). Malaysia has been developing rapidly for the past few years and this led to the growing of the economy as agribusiness is one of the income of the country. Import and export of food between countries as well as transportation of food among the states of Malaysia will cause food waste. This is because the longer distance between the place of production and the place of final consumption requires the food to be transported in a longer distance and thus, a longer time is needed. During the process of transportation, storage of food is really important. However, lack of storage facilities and infrastructure will cause the food, especially fresh food such as fruits, vegetables, meat and fish to be damaged or spoiled in the hot climate as there is no good infrastructure to store and cool the food (FAO, 2011, p. 11). In addition, consumers often ignore the food products which are close to the expiration date and they will choose the products where its expire date is still long from the day it is purchased.
