In general, no single one gender or racial, and ethnic group is smarter than the other. As research indicates that both similarities and differences do exist between the IQ scores of male and females, there are actually more gender similarities than differences in intelligence overall. For example, in 1932 when all Scottish boys and girls aged 11 were tested, it was found that the girls' average intelligence score was 100.6 and for boys was 100.5, which fairly shows similarity. Although, there are some gender differences in intelligence like in spelling, verbal ability, nonverbal memory, emotion-detecting ability, math and spatial aptitudes. Girls generally score better than boys on tests measuring spelling ability, so they can be considered to be better spellers. Research demonstrates that racial and ethnic groups differ overall in their average intelligence test scores as most of these group differences can be accounted for environmental differences. One research review claims that the average IQ test performance of today's sub-Africans is the same as British adults in 1948, which could be from being given improved nutrition, economic development, and equal education; the ethnic differences in IQ scores dramatically decreases with these environmental changes. Some racial minorities and genders showed improvement in test scores when getting over their stereotype threat, which initially resulted from societal stereotypes that one could base off of one racial/ethnic group, or gender to be more intelligent and this threat may cause test anxiety that may overshadow cognitive capabilities at the time of a
