Socially
Hong Kong is quite developed in the area of gender equality. Women are allowed to go outside, swim, shop, play sports, and do as they please. In the busy city the women work and earn money - in many houses the women are the breadwinners. There are no bans in schools and both genders can study freely. Jobs
In a graph published by the Ho Lap College in Hong Kong shows that women are clearly paid less than men. In their paper it goes onto saying that because throughout history men were treated with higher power this is why we have income inequality. However, fortunately in Hong Kong the wage gap is small in comparison to other parts of the world.

In the 2000’s urban women earned 7409.7 Yuan annually, which is 70.1% of an urban man’s salary. Another study done in the 2000’s, one that focussed on the income of women in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisher shows that women earned 59.6% of what a man would. Correspondingly the University of connecticut found out that from 1972 to 1989 the number of people who believed that men should be the breadwinners had decreased from 32% to 21%. While the second study was taking place, only 15% of American households had male breadwinners.

America emphasizes the need for equality, free speech and all the other human rights however even there, gender inequality still exists. Generally for every dollar a man earns a woman is paid 75 cents for doing the same job. This wage gap has only slightly changed since the 1990’s. The world is moving forward in other aspects of life, so why has the salary situation stayed the same?
