Giving blood is both a wonderful and courageous act. Unfortunately, I’m not very courageous and haven’t had the best experiences giving out blood. Therefore, I decided to observe and interview some of the people working the blood drive. I interviewed several people that day including: the phlebotomists, a nurse, and a couple students that gave blood. I learned a lot about the process, the purpose, and the rewards of donating blood. I believe giving blood is a noble act that Christians can become more involved in. The first step in the process is recruitment. Recruiting donors is not an easy thing to do because most people do not take the time to do so. There are a lot of hard working people advertising the blood donations and teaching folks why donating blood is beneficial. For an example, Dordt College has 1,400 students, but very few of the student body gave out blood. This is frustrating for both the patients that are in need of blood and the phlebotomists that want to help the patients. Second, People have to register and give their health history. The hemoglobin level in the blood of the donors are tested to see if they will be able to donate. After meeting these requirements, patients are sat down and have blood taken from them. It usually takes approximately 10 minutes to draw one unit of blood. I …show more content…
The big problem about blood donations is that most people do not realize how important donating blood is until someone they know needs blood. I’d like to encourage everyone to help in this process. There are other ways to help other than by giving blood. You can either become a certified phlebotomists, start a blood donation event, or help in recruitment. I believe God gives us the power to impact people’s lives and this is a perfect opportunity to lead people to Christ. Every person I asked including the nurses and the donors themselves, mentioned that donating blood is a part of being a
Yes, even to save the life of a fully grown person, It would be illegal to force me to donate blood if I didn’t want to. Nowadays we have this concept called bodily autonomy where a persons control over there own body is above all important and must not be infringed upon. When someone dies they leave instructions on what happens to their bodies whether it be natural burial, cremation ,cryonics or organ donation. No one disagrees ,disobeys or argues because it’s body their and therefore their choice to decide what happens to it .Even
The Red Cross is the single largest supplier of blood in the US, and was the first to develop treatment for hepatitis B & C, as well as HIV, West Nile Virus, and Chagas Disease. It provides 50% of the United States blood. The non-profit company that Clara Barton brought to America has been someone that America has turned to for help over its history,
My contribution to the mission of Nurse Corps Scholarship Program will not be limited to the help in which is needed. It has always been my desire to help others. Working in the medical field now as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant, and as a Direct Care worker for the mentally disabled has trained me to face many different challenges with the correct approach. Also as a Licensed Evangelist Missionary, in my Christian belief, I have had the opportunity to work in the communities helping others in the time of need. With all that I have seen and learned through my work experience and through the church, I will be able to contribute the love, the nurturing, and the comforting of the individual in need while providing the care
The blood people need and international problem. The health and safety people are in. ii. Support idea 1. This is very serious because disaster is happening everywhere.
Unit 1: Organ Donation Name: Kayden Mataafa Class: HED121A Introduction Organ donation within Australia is something society neglects, many barriers prevent Australians from knowing about donation, and how to go about donating. Organ donation is a life-saving and life-transforming medical process. Organ and tissue donation involves removing organs and tissues from someone who has died (a donor) and transplanting them into someone who, in many cases, is very ill or dying (a recipient) (Donatelife.gov.au, 2018). A donor within Australia cannot decide individually on whether they can or want to donate, in the end the family are always the final deciders in matters regarding organ donation. The purpose of this task is to incorporate the Ottawa
I schedule the appointments, check those in that are donating and relay the importance of donating blood to the student body. Also, being a member of River Valley’s FFA chapter I participate in activities such as Food for America, Adopt-a-Family, and Community Breakfast. FFA has been a very important part to my high school experience because it has taught me the
My blood type is A-, which is a rare blood type so I enjoy going to donate blood also. I know it doesn't sound like the most pleasant thing to do, especially if you're scared of needles but it makes me feel good knowing that if I can provide something to contribute in saving someone's life, I'm all in! Knowing that you can so easily turn someone's day around with any small gesture, whether it be helping at the food bank, donating anything, and spending time with family or friends, is something always worth
All around the whole world you can find charities for the less fortunate. There are charities for the hungry, the homeless, and for the sick people suffering in hospitals. At my church my pastor visits people in the hospital and prays for them to get better. My youth group does blood drives for the hungry and homeless twice a year. We also go up to Carpenteria and do ministry for the children up there.
Something so little made me feel so good. Knowing that my blood can save someone else's life. It makes me happy going to give blood because at the drive I notice a lot of other members of our community who I may know through work, and a lot of students who go to my school. It is something so simple and amazing that brings together the community to help
When we think of ‘donating’ we usually associate the word with money and we sometimes make excuses on why we can’t donate. But, we need to realize that there are so many things, some even more valuable than money that we can donate like, our time, items we no longer need, and our blood. I believe that donating blood can have a huge impact on someone’s life and it is something we should all consider doing. Receiving blood can be even more valuable than money for some people. Before donating we just need to consider the place we are donating to.
