According to Merrian Webster Dictionary, culture is a way of life and how we look at things (1828). It is easy to say that in this world divided by so many countries, it would be obvious that our cultures are different. From an American point of view, one of our neighboring countries that culture may seem so taboo to us is Haiti. Different is different but not like Haiti. From what they eat and how they work, makes up the cultural difference that we as Americans may seem as different. According to Lawless, Girault, Ferguson, and Macleod (2018), Haiti means “Land of high mountains.” Haiti is about the size of Maryland and is the second largest island in the Caribbean (Lawless et al., 2018). Haiti is made up of mostly mountain ranges which stretch through the island including lots of dense forest (Lawless et al., 2018). All the land is inhabited with small groups of people who farm for a living (Lawless et al., 2018). They have an abundance of natural harbors in which fishing is a primary resource of income on the island, much more than farming. Although Haiti is a beautiful country in sight, the infrastructure of the country is failing due all the earthquakes since the early 2000’s (Lawless et al., …show more content…
Haiti has one of the worst weather conditions on this side of the hemisphere, because it sits along the hurricane belt (Crawford-Adiletta, n.d.). Also, because Haiti does not have many trees, the more rainfall they get the more severe a flashflood or mudslide will happen (Crawford-Adiletta, n.d.). Temperatures range from 70 to 80 degrees year-round but raising to 100 degrees on a hot day and dropping to 60 degrees on a cold day (Crawford-Adiletta, n.d.). Dry season for the country is normally in January which is when farmers usually prepare for the upcoming farming seasons (Crawford-Adiletta,

Haiti is a Caribbean country that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to its east. Though it’s still recovering from a 2010 earthquake, many of Haiti 's landmarks dating to the early 19th century remain intact. These include Citadelle la Ferrière, a mountaintop fortress, and the nearby ruins of Sans-Souci Palace, the baroque former royal home of King Henry
In the future to prevent Haiti from greater damage by natural disasters Haiti should do the following actions: To prevent Causalities in future disasters Haiti should give warning to all residents about the disaster predicted and get to the safest place possible. You could get to a safe place in your city/town were you can prevent serious injuries and deaths. People In Haiti could have a plan run by the community or council and all should know what to do if something horrific occurs, that way the town will be safe and knowledgeable about how to protect themselves. These three proposals could prevent further impact in the future from natural disasters and the citizens of Haiti to be safe and aware at all times.
Haiti 's Climate Average daily temperatures in Haiti fall between seventy and eighty degrees Fahrenheit. However, high temperatures have topped one hundred degrees, and lows have dipped to a frigid sixty degrees. At night, temperatures usually fall to ten to twenty degrees. According to USA Today 's website, "November through March is Haiti 's dry season" it also includes, "the average rainfall is about 3.5 inches" during this period. Typically, the driest month of the year in Haiti is January.
Even though things look different and both countries have their own cultures, sometimes when we look at what’s happening. Clark state, “Haitian culture holds a deeply patriarchal belief that women should only concern themselves with domestic work and childcare” (Clark.) Haiti should probably look at the cultures and laws of both, and try to compare them together. In Haiti, American laws can be reordered to fit into the laws that Haiti have. The laws that Haiti have now are not working for the women very well.
Joshua Morgan Oral Communication Professor Currie General purpose-to inform Specific purpose- my classmates will be able to convey how I grew to have an intimate relationship with Haiti Central idea-Haiti has a special place in my heart Intro Attention grabber- Haiti is not a large country, Haiti 's border with the Dominican-Republic is only 159 miles. To put that in perspective, if you were to drive along the border at 60 mph 's, it would only take you 2 hours and 39 mins.
Even though Haiti’s a poor country, his people have a big heart. Parents don’t want their child to work, they make them focus on school only, and their education. On the other hand, Americans just consider a child to be lazy if at their teenage age they still don’t work. They raise their children to be independent different from Haitian that make their children to depend on them. Another fact is that Americans are not really friendly; they avoid contact with people, and they have a hypocrite smile on their face, however, Haitians are really friendly, sincere, and courteous.
Aristocracy, Haiti struggled with slavery. France was dealing with unequal distribution of wealth while Haiti had little wealth at all. Finally, While France is attempting to change it’s form of
Haiti, which was once the most lucrative agricultural colony of its time, is today ranked 145 out of 169 countries, according to the United Nations Human Development Index in 2010. In 2003, 80% of Haiti's population fell below the poverty line, a number that is likely to have increased since the earthquake in 2010. Their economy is based primarily in the agricultural sector, with the majority of production devoted to coffee, mangoes, sugarcane, rice, corn, and sorghum (CIA 2011). Though agriculture is a major part of the economy of Haiti, there is little governmental support for the agricultural sector. This has had a negative effect on Haitian food production because of the financial mandates imposed since the 1980's by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), including structural adjustment programs (SAPs).
Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere. In Haiti, 80% of the populations were under the poverty line and on January 12, 2010, a 7.3 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti (Amadeo, 2016) and more than fifty-nine aftershocks that followed. This natural disaster had a devastating effect on Haiti economy. Government and people around the world made donations and pledges of aid to Haiti. (History, 2017)
The government allows the haitian people to be free and to have rights, which is what allows the government to not fail and become a corrupt government. The government allowed the people to be free and have rights but the country is now one of the most poorest countries in the world. The country is still rebuilding from a earthquake that happened in 2010. But it is coming along well. The country isn't close to how advanced the USA is and is similar to countries like the philippines.
When researching information about Haiti’s cultural dimensions, there wasn’t a significant amount of data available. However, a cultural dimension model will be developed based on personal research(Appendix D). Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimension model is a five-dimension model that rates countries from 1 to 100 based on certain criteria such as power distance, individual vs. collectivism, masculinity vs. femininity, uncertainty avoidance, and long-term orientation. When looking at power distance, which measures how evenly power is distributed and the influence that one has over another, Haiti is assessed at 50.

Dominicans have a variety of food, such as dairy products, meats, breads, fruits, and vegetables. Unlike Haiti, Haitians eat the same food every day; for example, rice, beans, mangos and unhealthy food, as cookies, made by them using mud. It is not easy to obtain resources from the nothing because Haiti does not produce enough food crops and livestock to feed its people. As I have said, even though Dominicans and Haitians share history and land, they both finished in a very different situation, so they differ in several aspects.
Haiti is located in the West Indies, found in the western part of the island Hispaniola, which it also shares with the Dominican republic. It covers an area of 27 750 sq kms, two thirds of which are mountainous and the remaining land either coastal plain or river valley. Once densely covered by forest the country is now largely deforested, which has also contributed to soil erosion problems and destroyed land. Haiti 's climate is mostly tropical, high humidity and generally hot... Discussion of the food security issue: With a population of over 10.465 million Haiti is a self sufficient country but due to its location it experiences regular natural disasters that can cause devastation, destroying crops and the countries food sources.
