As a premier holiday destination it attracts an increasing number of visitors each year, all looking for great deals. In addition to that there are many ex pats from all over the world, particularly the UK, so they also fly back to see family on a regular basis – and of course, their family and friends visit them whenever possible. Sam: I wouldn’t say my experience growing up in Australia was all that elaborate. I lived in a suburban context in the shadow of a large city. Similar to Dan Bancroft (48 Shades Protagonist). I went through primary school, made friends, played sport and the rest, the typical lifestyle of a kid my age.
The towns are super small and there aren’t a lot either. The places don’t have air-conditioning or heaters. The setting was amazing. I could see it in my head when I was reading. There were dirt roads, dirt floors in houses and people outside burning up in the heat.
The farmers living there at the time dug up dirt to plant things. That made the soil loose. Since the soil was loose, it made it easier for the wind to lift it up in the air. The dust “monster” lifted up the dust and
Australia Day is one of the most unique national day’s in the world throughout history, celebrating the day of when our ancestors first arrived on the borders of Australia, in 1788. Rather than unite people as one whole though, the spirited outcome of this event isn’t what as anticipated by everyone and has divided the Australian society for good. And so it should be held at an alternative date, where Australian citizens feel worthy of their identity and not cheated by it. However, the celebration shouldn’t be adapted to like that of other commemorations like ANZAC day. Essentially, this day will always be a tragic memory for the indigenous and be viewed as the invasion of their homeland.
Celebrating Australia day is like holding a party without inviting the hosts. While many Australians celebrate this holiday, they have little knowledge behind the events that occurred and why it is celebrated. If I’m honest, I haven’t been brought up, like many of my generation, to understand and acknowledge the events which occurred on this day. Instead for as long as I can remember I have seen the day as a public holiday where mum drags us to a boring family gathering, to play backyard cricket and observe the adults consume excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages. According to a poll conducted by Review Partners, much of the Australian population are unable to accurately name the event
Deadly Unna by Phillip Gwynne explores racial issues directed at the Indigenous Australians. Gwynne’s story is based on events that occurred in the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. This book clearly shows that Australia is not the land of the fair go for certain demographics, while other demographics do experience Australia as the land of the fair go. People who have money will experience Australia as the land of the fair go, but the people who do not will not be able to experience Australia as a land of equal opportunity. Indigenous Australians are also included in the demographic of people who cannot experience Australia as the land of the fair go.
so why is this day so important. Australia Day. What’s the first word that comes to mind? Is it fun or Invasion day? What does that mean to you?
