Imperialism is a style of government that strives to expand its territory by either invading other nations or forcing them to submit to its control through political means. Countries engaged in imperialism to expand their territory and power. In America during the 1860s, industrialization was on the rise which increased the demand for raw materials to support the mass production of goods and the growing population of the Country. America sought to capture Hawaii because of the island's abundant resources. During this time, Hawaii was governed by a monarchy and was home to many American planters who benefited from the rich resources.
The cultural aspects the Chinese immigrants and Japanese immigrants brought to Hawaii was their martial arts and holiday celebrations. The Chinese immigrants came to Hawaii in the late 1788, where at least 26,000 Chinese worked on Hawaii’s sugar cane plantations. The cultural aspects the Chinese immigrants gave to Hawaii during the plantation era was preserving the art of kung fu and lion dancing. During this time, many of the immigrants lived and worked in Chinatown in Honolulu. The Japanese immigrants came many years after the Chinese arrived.
Why is plantation life so hard and why is it not worth much?Immigrant workers and planters were working and living on the sugar plantations. It was in Hawaii, during the mid 1800s and it was to fill the need of workers in the fields. That was started because there aren’t enough people in Hawaii due to diseases and plantation businesses were booming. They offered a place to live, food, and money, just live a normal job. Plantation life in Hawaii in the 1800s was awful.
Imperialism was a controversial idea that a nation can extend its power outward through means of diplomatic or military force. This often results in a shift of power from one major force currently in control to another. The people of that nation under control conflict may also experience wars, rebellions, or cultural destruction. Looking at some of these events, we see some positives and negatives of imperialistic action taken by the United States, and how it affected the nations imperialized by the United States. For starters, let’s look at Hawaii’s annexation.
Greetings, citizens of America! We have all gathered here to discuss a very serious issue: the annexation of Hawaii. Yesterday, July 7, 1898, Hawaii was annexed into the United States, which was reprehensible. There is no just cause for annexing Hawaii, Hawaii itself doesn’t benefit from the annexation, and we will have to spend lots of resources to uphold Hawaii. We have no guarantee that the Hawaiians will cooperate with us.
The Immorality of the Overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy Throughout the overthrow of the Hawaiian Monarchy in 1893 and the annexation of the islands as a territory, to the statehood granted in 1959, the United States has committed immoral and unnecessary actions against the indigenous people of Hawaii. Queen Liliuokalani had been freshly bestowed the position of reigning sovereignty in 1891, after the current king Kalakaua had passed away and the second-in-line, W.P. Leleiohoku, had already died. She was the first and last ruling Queen of the Hawaiian monarchy, and she was displeased with the state of the monarchy after her brothers rule. The monarchy had lost power under Kalakaua after he had been forced to sign the Bayonet constitution, a
Today Hawaii culture and customs are a medley of many traditions from all over the world. This is the result of immigrants coming to the island from Asia, Europe, the South Pacific and other regions of the world. Two such customs brought to the Hawaiian Islands from Japan are Boy’s Day and Girl’s Day, which were both brought to the Hawaiian Islands by Japanese immigrants. Boy’s Day or Tango no Sekku in Hawaiian originated in Japan between 593- 629. It is celebrated on the 5th of May by hanging one Koi fish for each boy in the household from poles of bamboo inside the home.
Many Native Hawaiian people have lost touch with their culture. Many people around the world don’t know about the unique Hawaiian culture. People in America don’t know a lot about these unique Hawaiian arts either. Many of the old Hawaiian traditions were lost because foreigners took over the Hawaiian islands and banned many Hawaiian traditions that have been going on for decades. This loss of culture was devastating for the people and was hard to gain back after almost being completely eliminated.

Have you ever considered what life for the sugar plantation laborers in Hawaii were like? Many different races came to Hawaii in the 1800s. They came to work on the sugar plantations so that they could take back their earnings to their home country. The races that came were the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Filipinos, Portuguese, Norwegians, Puerto Ricans, Spaniards, germans, and Russians. Many left their families and came to Hawaii, but some brought their families with them.
The United State’s annexation of Hawaii in 1898 led to the gradual destruction of the Hawaiian culture and the almost-extinction of native-born Hawaiians. The majority of the Hawaiian natives opposed the annexation of Hawaii and wanted to maintain their sovereignty. Although the Japanese could have taken over the Hawaiian islands if the United States had not, the annexation of Hawaii by the U.S. was unjustified because of the treatment of the monarchy and natives, the infringement of the natives’ self-established culture and government, and the natives’ overwhelming opposition to the U.S’s involvement in Hawaii. From 1795 to 1874, the Kamehameha Dynasty ruled over the kingdom of the Hawaiian islands. Up until the death of Kamehameha III, the U.S. had stayed out of interfering with the islands.
Invasive species have been a massive problem in Hawaii since the 17s and 18 hundreds. At first, it wasn’t that big of a deal, but the influx of invasive species grew over time, and it became a dangerous slippery slope. Species that were once alienated poured into Hawaii and destroyed indigenous species that had been native to Hawaii for a very long time. Since then, the Hawaiian people and advocates of removing invasive plants and animals have banded together to help remove these species. There has been a great global effort to remove invasive species in all places, but the hasty spread of them has made it almost impossible to eradicate a lot of them. I think my group can majorly help with this by educating you all about the seriousness of invasive species.
Being very fortunate to travel, my wife and I decided to traveo to Hawaii. It was our first trip to that paradisaical place. The experience was fabulous from the very beginning. We flew to the island, and before the plane could land, we were amazed at beautiful blue and clarity of the sea. As we reached towards the beach we were able to see the bottom of the ocean.
I vote against the Compact of Free Association (COFA) because as a delegate of Hawaii the negative effect on Hawaii exceeds the positive effects on the Unified States in general. The Compact of Free Association is a treaty that gave the nation of Palau, the Marshall Islands and the confederate states of Micronesia an open access to the United States. COFA is beneficial for the United States because they get land for furthermore unnecessary process. The harmful effects of COFA toward hawaii is by creating a legacy of health problems and also lacking The United States consequently was allowed restrictive military access to the area. As to find out about COFA it is encouraged to find out about it, the adverse consequences for the general population who experience
