The ecosystem that we live in today has changed and developed by many years of evolution. Since the beginning of time, we know the fact that humans have been modifying the Earth and depending on the Earth’s natural resources. Moreover, some people believe that human activities harm the Earth while others think that human activities make the Earth a better place to live in. In my opinion, I believe that human activities damage the Earth because of overusing our natural resources. As we all know, the population of our Earth increases. Consequently, we tend to maximize the use of our natural resources. This includes burning of fossil fuels, cutting down trees, overfishing, and many more. Deforestation in Indonesia is caused by industrial activities such as growing oil palms and timbers. There are main causes of deforestation in Indonesia. One of these is logging, which has a major contribution to the loss of Indonesian forest and this is because of political corruption. It has destructed the Indonesian Borneo and Kalimantan. They let exports, without a permit, log outside authorized areas in return for a bribe. Between 1985 and 2001, about 56% of protected lowland tropical forests in Kalimantan were cut down.

Another thing is that Sumatra’s Riau province in Indonesia is where the fastest rate of deforestation is happening. It is said that the cause of this is oil palm plantations and it is about one-third of the total deforestation in Sumatra’s Riau province. Likewise, the remaining of it is due to pulpwood plantations. In addition, Indonesia is known as the world’s largest producer of palm oil, which caused many major threats in Indonesia.
