The researchers has got a lot of opportunities to do their research work in the area of segmentation. It is the process of splitting or partitioning the whole image into segments. With respect to features the entire image is divided into subparts. The objects, the lines, curves and boundaries are located easily by using this image segmentation. The main aim of this segmentation is to change the representation of an image and also to simplify the image which will be easy to analyze. The applications of image segmentation are as follows. They are used in medical field, in scientific fields, engineering and technology, face recognition, iris recognition object tracking and object detection. …show more content…

The image is being divided into objects and its back ground. It provides the ouline of the object [29].By observing the change in intensity or pixels of an image the edge based segmentation divides the image. The two main methods of edge based segmentation are (i) Gray Histogram (ii) Gradient based method .Zero crossing ,laplacian of Guassian ,classical edge detectors and color edge detectors are said to be as the various operators used in edge base segmentation. Step edge, ramp edge, spike edge, roof edge are some of the normally used edges in image processing.W.X.Kang et.al[43], Zhang et.al[44],V.K.Dehariya et.al[45], Nikhil R pal et.al[46] says that it depends on the discontinuity detection ,it also aims to situate points with less or more rapid gray level changes.
