Journalists provide news through many different mediums, based on printing, postal systems, broadcasting, and electronic communication.
Common topics for news reports include war, government, politics, education, health, the environment, economy, business, and entertainment, as well as athletic events, quirky or unusual events. The Media A billion people use the internet everyday and on average an American teenager spends about 11 hours a day on some type of social media. The media has a substantial impact on everyone's life owing the fact of the amount of time we all spend on the internet. In knowing this the media should give positive images and messages but, does the media actually do that? Or are they too worried about making money and getting viewers.
Ainsley Anderton Dr. Wainer History and Philosophy Term Paper April 11, 2017 The news and the media impact the world in significant ways and the news has come a long way from when it first started out. Many people do not know how far it has really come. The history and the growth of the news is the past that changed the future. Society expect to be constantly entertained; they have become so concerned with things such as who the latest star is dating, scandals, or dumb people doing rather idiotic things. Much of society have been consumed in their personal instant gratification and what makes them “happy”. When on an off chance that news does show things that are serious and impactful(not necessarily positive things that is happening in the world) people have become so numb that the best they could do is feel sympathetic and at worst continue on with their day. The other part of the problem is that those behind what is being published and shown on the news media have been absorbed in their avarice nature, whatever allows them to make as much profit they do. “Writing thousands of hours of coverage from what could have been summarized in a couple of minutes every few weeks, a new rhetorical strategy was developed, or-let’s be generous-evolved”(6), Saunders describes the new formula formed by mass news firms that would yield the most profit.
Imagine a world where communication is difficult, there is not a lot of entertainment, and places are hard to get to. This actually was the world in the 1900s-1910s. Technology has come a long way since the early 1900s. Our world has become more advanced and fast paced due to the advances of technology. Over the last 100 years, technology is by far the biggest change in our culture.
Some positive effects could include an easier way to communicate among countries and groups and spread good and full hearted ideas. Secondly the power of the media could be domesticated by the government if it were official. It also could be used to support a cause that a certain official stands for and would benefit many lives. Lastly it could also support the United States of America and its citizens through what may occur. Some negative effects may be it being used against the other branches of government and then they would get a greater amount of power.

Gender and Media In today’s world, the media consists of so many representations and ideas about men and women that though it can be argued that there is no straight-forward effect, it has been accepted that it does in some way affect our sense of identity. The number of hours of television that a person is exposed to in his lifetime does support the argument that a human inadvertently at times uses television as a reference point. For example, fictional romances in television or in the movie shows how one should behaves in a romantic or in a friendly relationship while magazines for women and men churn out advices on all aspects of one’s life from how to manage your finances, how to discipline your kids, how to groom oneself and what the latest fashions are.
