It is proven that a good supply of nutrients is of critical importance to a child of school going age. Children must receive an adequate amount of nutrients as it plays a critical role in a variety of body functions such as the promotion of growth and development, the building and repair of body tissue, improving resistance to illness and infection and supplying energy. It is therefore essential to be aware of the child’s nutrient and energy needs and making it a priority when planning a menu for school children. The main nutrients that must be included when planning a menu for children of school going age is as follows:

Two of the most extreme nutritional diseases are Marasmus and kwashiorkor. The most common in young children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years is PEM.
Carbohydrates are an energy source that yields 4 calories per gram and should be one of the child’s primary sources of energy. Therefore foods that contain complex and unprocessed carbohydrates are the ideal choices for children snacks. Carbohydrates that acts as an energy source can be found in fresh fruits and vegetables, vegetable juice as well as whole grains.
Fats also serves as an energy source because research shows that each gram of fat consumed supplies approximately 9 calories. The foods in which fats can be found are butter, margarine, cheese, oils and salad dressing.
The adequate intake of carbohydrates and fats will reduce the danger of mild protein deficiency as both carbohydrates and fats are and energy source to the body. Protein is an inefficient source of energy and is only burned for energy when there is not enough carbohydrates or fats available to meet energy
Main Argument and Thesis The main point of the article is that diets can often be dependent upon geographic surroundings. Diets can provide essential nutrients and minerals in various ways. Supporting Evidence The authors, Patricia Gadsby and Leon Steele, support their main point through using nutritional evidence, referencing scientific studies, and providing dialogue from multiple individuals.
(Cavendish) School lunches provide nutrients which gives energy for them, for their later classes, and most school lunch is known to be more of a lunch than the junk food being eaten at
Research shows that children eat more without realizing when they are served larger amounts. Vegetable and fruit intake is dwindling down in youth diets. French fries are the most common “vegetable” that children eat making up twenty-five percent of their intake. Fruit juices are 40% of the fruit intake for children. Because of the shift in cultural norms, there are more unhealthy foods at convenience versus the healthy food that used to be found in many
Effects of Having First Lunch Over Second Lunch is a time where for thirty minutes everyone settles down to eat and laugh with their friends In many high schools, such as Mountain Pointe High School, there are two lunches to accommodate the student body because one lunch would be too crowded and large. There is first lunch, which is also called fourth lunch because it occurs after third period and then there is second lunch, also called fifth lunch because it is after fourth period. Both lunches have their benefits, but the ones from first lunch can have a tremendous impact. In general, the effects of first lunch instead of second can greatly improve the quality of life for a student.
Should School Lunches Change For a long time now people have been arguing over whether or not to change up the restrictions to the lunches served in schools across America. Many different arguments have come up in recent years. School officials should not change up the school lunches because some people need more food than others, they should not be able to tell them what they can and can't eat, and finally because it will take lots of time and money to make the switch. The first reason schools should not put a limit on school lunches because some students need more food than others.
Eating a healthy school lunch is part of the National School Lunch Program. It increases a child's consumption of six vitamins and minerals. According to a study published in 2003 in the “American Journal of Agricultural Economics.” Researchers found that eating school lunches helped a student’s intake of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, vitamin B12 and riboflavin, as well as dietary fiber. These students also had a lower intake of added sugars.
If if we 're to change one thing in my community I would change the school lunches because they need to be healthier and taste awful. At the onset, the lunches should not have processed foods because they are full of chemicals that can harm the body. Some of the most popular chemicals are: Sodium Benzoate, Butylated hydroxide, and Butlate hydroxytoluene, canthaxanthin, olestra, high fructose corn syrup, mono sodium Glut amate, partially hydrogenated oils, Potassium bromate, and sodium nitrate. Sodium Benzoate is a chemical combined with sodium hydroxide and benzoin acid. Butylated hydroxanisole keeps the oils in the foods from oxidizing.
Parizad Batty Avari EYE11-3.4 Discuss the nutritional requirements of children aged: • 1-2 years • 2-3 years • 3-5 years • 5-7 years Diet has a huge impact on a child’s growth and development; therefore, it is essential that one understands their nutritional needs and caters for them. Children need a range of healthy foods that include a portion of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins, minerals, dairy and a small amount of fat every day. Children need portions that are in proportion to their age and height. As children grow their nutritional requirements vary as they need more energy and that comes slightly larger portion sizes. It is recommended that all individuals should consume a diet that contains: • Plenty of starchy foods such as rice,
If parents (or guardians) ate a school lunch every day, their child’s complaints would become much more understandable. Beverage options include milk, water, and several kinds of juice. The milk itself hardly deserves the label ‘milk’—it is watered down to the point where it can only

Type 2 diabetes rates have been rising in Canada and around the world and are due to excessive weight gain, obesity and physical inactivity. It is known as a disease where the pancreas does not produce enough insulin in the body, therefore resulting in glucose building in the blood whereas it should be used for energy. According to the World Health Organization, the number of people with diabetes in Canada will increase by 75% over the next 30 years from 2 million to 3.5 million patients. Moreover, diabetes is a rising concern as it leads to diseases such as heart, and kidney disease, stroke, infections and low levels of blood sugar. This paper explores the issues of diabetes and solutions to prevent it by increasing physical

Is having junk food in school really such a bad idea? Does it obtain a value that some schools lack? Junk food was provided in school, before the health program came into place, banning it from schools around the country. It was proudly served and allowed in school, and also sold for many school fundraisers. Although some people might say that junk food can be unhealthy, schools should allow, or serve, some junk food because it will make the kids want to eat school lunches more, it will bring in more money to the school, and it will give the students the calories that they need.
