Inclusive Leadership: Must needed layer in typical leadership hierarchy Inclusive leadership[1], a buzzword in typical leadership models which are taught in B-schools in the country. Let me define this buzzword using small story. Katherine, an employee of multinational consulting firm was recently in Gurgaon office for some assignment. She was the only person in the group who wasn’t Indian—and one of very few women. On the first day, during the lunch time she was waiting to meet all of her peers. As caterers brought in boxed lunches, Katherine began to circulate among the managers. Rishikesh, head of the Gurgaon office, invited the group to begin eating but paused to recognize Katherine and announce that a special lunch had been provided for her. In the special lunch she was provided with “Pasta”. Katherine was shocked after looking at lunch as she was feeling “excluded” from the group as she is the …show more content…
This story shows “how much inclusive leadership is necessary to build strong and diverse team?” Inclusive leadership can be defined as a leadership which uses balanced strategy of meeting employees’ needs for uniqueness and belongingness that can be more impactful in increasing employee innovation and engagement than a strategy focusing on only one or the other of these needs. Inclusive leadership involves the people from different background and help to build team citizenship which will lead to more innovation and productivity. It is found that team citizenship is the directly affecting the innovation process in the organization. Team citizenship can be defined as a belongingness of an employee in the team. While working as a startup leader this is “the must” requirement to be an inclusive leader. Leader should be able to understand the need for an inclusion and according to the need he should be facilitator to build and develop team citizenship amongst
Importance and benefits of managing this diversity There is prescription that a company could apply to be successful, therefore it depends on the capability of the leader to sort out what is best to the organisation based on the level of productivity of the workplace. Leaders and managers should know and recognise skills that are vital in creating a positive and effective diverse workforce. The welfare of having a diverse workforce is that it brings a unique standpoint to the company.
At Lampasas High School I show leadership in many ways, like volunteering to answer questions or be the example in class, being part of the National Honor Society, and being a student athlete. I am also in the Gear Up Leadership program at Lampasas High School, where I am pushed to set the best example for others, I am challenged to promote a college and career oriented future. I believe being a good role model is one of the best ways to show leadership. This past year I was chosen by staff at my school for demonstrating leadership, citizenship, and character in my school and my community, to attend American Legion Auxiliary Bluebonnet Girls State. It was such an honor to be able to attend Bluebonnet Girls State where only 500 hundred girls
1. My philosophy of leadership is about collaboration and teamwork. Respecting and treating everyone the same, is key to supporting a good team atmosphere. I believe when a leader puts effort and care into assisting others, then their peers and followers will naturally want to support them. It is also important for a leader to recognize, that advocacy must never become so important that the critical elements of leadership are neglected (e.g. policy enforcement, command support, etc...).
Every child can learn and every child must learn with inclusive pedagogy through accessibility of education. If it is not, I am determine to make it become accessible by any means small or large. Sharing thinking with Ben Carson, I “Think Big”; I believe that I can be the change and with courage and determination I am the change. 100% numeracy and literacy is my all time goal and I will achieve because I believe.
Lead·er n. a person that leads; it takes certain amounts of skills and determination to be an effective leader. I have always strived to be a leader, but struggled because I was so shy. As I grew older, met incredible people, and had amazing experiences, I became determined to overcome my own insecurities and develop leadership skills to help inspire others. I have fond memories from my childhood, although I prefer those from home over the ones from school. I never struggled at school academically, but during my elementary years I was bullied by fellow classmates and soon developed severe social insecurities which set me back from my peers.
Leaders believe that advancing diversity is vital to their business because their companies need it to stay competitive, and they believed it was more vital because of their personal experiences and values. Diversity has the opportunity to create disagreements in the workplace and that is needed. People who are of different backgrounds and lifestyles are given the opportunity to challenge one another more. Having a diverse workplace can also help prevent companies from becoming to narrow-minded and out of touch with its customer
MacBeath et al. (2004: 13) assert that ‘it creates opportunity for all members of an organization to assume leadership’. Much distributed leadership literature speaks enthusiastically of opening opportunities to a wider range of staff to contribute to leadership, thereby benefiting both learners and staff (Lumby, 2013,
Leadership has been defined in a variety of ways, there are multiple authors and theorists who have tried to define and understand leadership, all leading to varying theories and conclusions, but one thing that is universally understood is the importance of effective leadership and how someone with good leadership skills can impact so many people around them. (Kakabadse and Kakabadse, 1999; Yukl, 2002; Northouse,2013) The main components that have been identified to play a role in leadership are relations between leader and subordinates, interaction form between leader and followers, the influence that the leader has, the way in which the leader behaves and finally a leader’s traits. (Yukl, 2002) These elements that make up a leader, are then used as building blocks to identify the way in which each specific leader deals with its followers.
1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. I consider myself a leader, i believe this because i am the type of person that feels like if i am not the one to do it then it will not be done the right way. Whenever i would work in groups i would designate myself to be the one to do the harder assignment, because i only trusted that would take it serious, not anyone else. Also, whenever i do anything that involves a team, i like to take control, because i feel like i am the best one to work under pressure or i can choose the best solution for any situation.
After reading and learning about diversity management, which originated in the United States, I now have a new understanding and view on its importance not only for the company to strive, but also the employees. Diversity management is a strategy of using best practices to support multiple lifestyles and personal characteristics while providing support from various cultural, racial, geographic, economic, societal and political backgrounds while incorporating that into the business at all levels of the company. You take this melting pot of people to create your leadership which can make your company more diverse and desirable in the market. According to Llopis (2013), “Diversity management is about business strategy, brand management, product
From my point of view , Leadership has more to it than I can possibly imagine. I define leadership as the art of enabling a group of people get to a specific destination. As a leader your main focus was to enable your followers lead theselves. As i think deeper i realise a person cannot choose to be a leader. I think a lot of the time people take on leadership positions without knowing.
