Information literacy is a broad concept which includes other types of literacy of the 21st century. Basic literacy is a prerequisite for information literacy and it embraces many other types of literacy under its broad umbrella. According to Bawden (2001), this may include library literacy, media literacy and computer literacy. It is also opined that the main components of information literacy includes computer literacy, technology literacy, network literacy, media literacy etc.(Mailander, 2013; McClure 1994). This indicates the close relationship with information literacy and literacy related to technology.
The following types of literacy can be considered as integral components of information literacy which are essential in the digital environment.
• Computer literacy generally refers to competence in using commonly used software programs (Bawden, 2008).
• ICT literacy—It is using digital technology, communications tools, and/or networks to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create information in order to function in a knowledge society.
• Digital Literacy-- It is the ability to use effectively a variety of information and communication technologies and programs (software and hardware) in the workplace and/or in the classroom.
• Media Literacy – It is the ability to access, understand, analyze, evaluate and create media messages on television, the Internet, cell phones, social media, and other communications technologies.

Today’s youth spend countless hours on the internet for various reasons. Whether it is for research purposes, indulging in social media, watching videos, or playing games, reading is involved in some shape or form. Regardless of the content, reading online gives children certain abilities, such as expanding their vocabulary, adapting to different wordings and writing styles, identifying errors, understanding the material, and identifying the importance of details/imagery in their writing, that they may or may not be getting from books. You can also support a play based approach to learning by encouraging children to play with things they may not have played with before e.g playing with the resource yourself alongside the child. For me, literacy has always been a problem to this day I am still learning how to speak, and write using proper literacy. Literacy is not just reading and writing, anyone can do that but the ability to understand such things, to comprehend them that is, true literacy. My development for literacy has always been a struggle as I have spoken about before. I had a speak impediment when I was younger which used me to go into different classes which took me away from formal English classes.
Rachel, You are absolutely correct that the information literacy requires individuals to recognize when information is needed. I think information literacy is going to be well needed as a base of life log learning theirs always going to be something new to learn or someone’s changing a policy of the process of what needs to be changed. In a criminal justice career part of using literacy would be gathering the information the right way, which I could see sometimes individuals have a difficult time with processing information that is directed to the individual.
To be multiliterate, a person is needed to be able to understand and function with numerous methods of communication. Multiliteracy involves being reading and writing literate and being able to understand and use technology to function and survive in the world of today. Technology is constantly changing and increasing and being multiliterate is of vital importance. I intend to discuss three important literacies in my life, being computer literate, reading and writing literate as well as health literacy.
