"Peace begins with smile". Same as with the beauty of this quotation from the famous missionary, Mother Teresa, reveals that a smile can change someone's negative feelings towards you. Hence, smiling is infectious as once you cast a smile at someone, the other person is forced to smile as well. This is how the journey to maintain peace around the world begins. In today's contemporary world where we find people, countries and whole nation fighting with each other for power and resources; if only there was love and compassion then there would be no room for hatred and violence. Also, people have forgotten what it means to live in peace nowadays, as the only news that we get on the mass media is that there has been an attack in Syria resulting in the death of many …show more content…
Inner peace is characterised as a state when someone remains calm despite the presence the presence of stress and hurdles in one's life. The peace of mind brings to someone the feeling of bliss, happiness and contentment. In today's modern age, where people are struggling with the hurdles of life, inner peace acts as a way for them to cut off from the world. Some ways to find inner peace are through meditation, relaxation, yoga and so on. Inner peace can be used as a weapon to combat mental illnesses like body dsymorphic disorder, anxiety and even social anxiety. Due to our modern lifestyle where people do not have the time to relax, inner peace is necessary for them to fight against stressful situations which seriously are harming their life. Also people cannot find inner peace because of an increase in violence. Violence is omnipresent it may be found in their households or outside their homes. Violence can also destroy a jolly family in just minutes. Then peace ceases to exist. Thus, people live in dire conditions and cannot find happiness and fail in all their endeavours and witness failure rather than
In the book, “Separate Peace” community is exemplified first through both Gene and Finny resided in a boarding school for young men/boys. The young men had future aspirations of moving forward in life by enlisting in the WWII. As we all know by enlisting into the military the men all share the same goal which is fighting and protecting our country. Secondly, community was presented through the boys being friends and never separated. Both individuals were a part of the super suicide society.
Chapter Five From what Jayden could observe upon landing on this planet, was that there was no law. No order. Like Molly earlier said, Gavin is the so called “self-proclaimed king.” If there was any form of actual government, it would be a very primordial one, at best. Most likely, that would mean that the leader would be the biggest and strongest.
And that is why I think we should encourage peace over going to war with a dangerous
In A Separate Peace, John Knowles uses the universality of jealousy and envy to develop a theme based upon man’s inhumanity to man. Fifteen years after attending Devon, an elite military preparatory school located in New Hampshire, the narrator, Gene Forrester, returned to reflect upon how fearful he was during the time he spent training and studying for World War II. He then decides to visit the places or symbols on the campus that were closely associated with his fear; a marble staircase and a tree placed near the bank of the river. As Gene visits these key symbols of fear, he flashes back upon his time at Devon. He remembers his best friend, Phineas or Finny, as a very superior athlete and charming young man.
Therefore, if an individual was failing in life, blame
Strength develops in someone through their experiences which have the ability to make them an emotionally stronger person. A quote by Ernest Hemingway presents that “the world breaks everyone, then some become strong at the broken places.” Even those who suffer the most will have the ability to bounce back at a stronger state. This theme reveals its relevance in A Separate Peace by John Knowles as we analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the main characters, Finny and Gene. Although some may insist that Finny’s emotional state fits the mold of a weak character, I have confidence that Finny has the most inner strength out of the two boys given his description and actions throughout the novel.
Post-traumatic stress disorder, often referred to as PTSD is a mental health disease that people develop after experiencing and or witnessing a traumatic event in their life. When diagnosed with PTSD your personality can drastically change. In the book A Separate Peace, the author John Knowles establishes a character, Elwin Lepellier to be a prime candidate for post-traumatic stress disorder. Lepellier appears to have PTSD due to the many symptoms he was expressing.
In Elie Wiesel’s speech, “Hope, Despair, and Memory,” he emphasizes the importance of peace. He states throughout his speech that we need to give the gift of peace to others and that mankind needs peace more than ever. War will go on forever, but peace can easily be lost if we don’t try to make peace every single day. He even quotes The Talmud to emphasize his point “It is the wise men who will bring about peace.” He also tries to connect with people from all over the world, for example he says that Israel has gone without peace for thousands of years, this statement may be harsh, but it gets across his point.
Anne Frank once said, “How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world.” The Holocaust was a traumatizing event for millions of innocent people, however, many found comfort by remaining calm and relaxed, for example, Anne Frank in the “Diary of a Young Girl”. In addition, politicians also did their best to encourage positivity, such as shown in “Blood, Toil, Tears and Sweat” by Prime Minister of England Winston Churchill. Keeping this mindset, they were able to maintain decent health, and most importantly, were able to persevere through any challenge that presented itself. Though some may argue that compromise is the best way to respond to conflict, in order to obtain peace and compromise, one must first have a positive attitude.
Many people suggested that potentially fixing the problems through peace should be gotten rid of, and violence should be the only
Emma Beesley Mrs. Mancuso Honors English II 3 February 2023 Jealousy, Conscious Ignorance, and Abusive Relationships Exemplified in A Separate Peace In the novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, the author discusses the themes of jealousy and conscious ignorance that are commonly found within toxic relationships. The author's intent is not just to tell the story of Gene and Finny, but also to show the inside and the downfall of a relationship built upon these negative characteristics. Finny

Mindfulness & Power of our thoughts A strong impact is made on our health and overall well-being by what we think and feel, how we talk to ourselves, and what view we take about what is happening to us, and around us. Mindfulness, in its simplest form, means to be able to pay attention to the present moment, without judgment and criticism. To the things that actually “are”.
