Internal communication
Internal communication refers to the messages that are shared among members of an organisation, it is usually concerned with work-related matters and provides the means for people to work together and co-operate with each other, Steinburg (2006: 292). It is therefore a way of spreading information between organizational members or parts of the organization. It takes place across all levels and organizational units of an organization.
Internal communication with employees is significant because the employees are most important stakeholders. So in order to overcome the greatest challenges of corporate communicators is to make sure that you retain the loyalty and commitment of employees. In this type of communication channel messages follow a certain order of command. Meaning information flows from a leader to his assistants and they in turn pass on the information to the next level of staff. For example the company’s newsletter, which gives employees as well as the clients a clear idea of a company’s good and vision. It also includes the transfer of information with regard to the memoranda, reports, directions, and scheduled meetings in the certain order of command. Business plans, customer satisfaction survey, annual reports, employers manual, review meetings, Board meetings, employee suggested schemes or unions are all formal communication …show more content…

Thus strict hierarchical web of communication cannot function on its own and that is why communication channel outside of this web exits. While this type of communication channel may disturb the chain of command, a good leader needs to come up with a good balance between the formal and informal communication channel. An example of an informal communication channel is lunchtime at the organization 's cafeteria, informal meetings with employees in a relaxed atmosphere where discussions among employees are encouraged. A leader must be active enough to be able to walk around so that he/she may know all the employees queries. Quality circles, team work, different training programs are outside of the chain of command and so, they are specified under informal communication
