Nurture 's Influence Throughout Childhood and Adolescence The nature versus nurture debate has puzzled many researchers, scientists, and philosophers alike for some time. Nature refers to hereditary influences that have been programmed into our DNA by genes, whereas nurture refers to environmental influences that we are exposed to, such as parents, peers, and social or economic class to name a few.
