Reading is one of the four major important skills that we are required to master in the process of learning English Language in schools or other institutions. Reading has always been a crucial area in language acquisition. Reading is one of the most important skills other than listening, speaking and writing skills. In this digital age, reading is losing its fame due to the technological advancements and sophisticated gadgets like internet and smartphones. The ‘digital natives’ or the students of the 21st century considers reading as a laborious and time-consuming process. The students do not favour the whole process of joining many words together and creating meaning in thick and non attractive books. Some students who loves reading are mostly drawn to digital stories or e-books which are widely accessible via the internet and smartphones nowadays. Lack of reading materials is definitely an issue that most of the school experiences. With the increasing number of students every year, the schools could not cater to the needs of the students at times. Issues with school funds, paper works and financial procedures will definitely take some time in order to provide sufficient books for the students. The quality and the relevance of books should be in accordance to student’s needs and levels of proficiency as well. Students motivation towards reading is also a major constraint in this programme. In this technological era, students are drawn to sophisticated technological devices like smartphones, tab, IPad and other devices.
