Pi’s youth is filled with religious explorations and practicing their beliefs he simultaneously starts believing in three religions Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam. However, the book very tedious at times and it had lots of chapters. But overall I found the book to be a great read. It was not very easy to comprehend since it is told in a complex way through several layers of narration. The book’s vocabulary was not immensely challenging which helped me go through the book with ease. Interpreting the animals as actual people was kind of intimidating as I found it hard to associate Pi being Richard Parker but upon further analysis, I was able to comprehend and grasp the human to the animal association. I would recommend this book to a friend if they like animals and share a connection with them. Also if they prefer books that have adventurous, magic realism, and philosophical genres. Although there is a movie on this novel I have not seen it yet. The author wrote a fantastic book capturing the detail of a magnificent adventure and journey experienced by Pi. His use of imaginary was phenomenal which was why I enjoyed reading the book. I never had such an adventure nor have I ever been stranded with nobody around so the book did not really connect to my personal life. Life of Pi had three main themes the will to live, storytelling, and religious beliefs. Pi’s entire journey at the sea was a perfect illustration survival through seemingly insurmountable odds. He spends 227 days on sea live
Corresponding: sailor is zebra, cook is hyena, orangutan is the mother, and Pi himself is a tiger. Maybe you cannot accept the second cruel story, but when the author tells the story of the first time has hinted us, the second story is really happened. In this way, we know that the first story is a realistic metaphor, it contains two layers: one is the metaphor of the real event; the second is through their own sentiment and sublimation of the metaphor for human nature thinking, and this second layer is the core of this book. The wonderful thing about this book is that everyone will feel very complicated after reading it, There are many feelings but do not know where to start. According to my memory, probably can be divided into several layers.
Pi continues his journey by learning how to live in a small space with these animals and even training one of them. In the end Pi reveals another story with people replacing the animals that were on the lifeboat before. Pi had initially used animals which best represented the people who were really in the boat. This showed how throughout the story, since these people were put into a life threatening situation, they had revealed a more primal side. Life of Pi is accompanied with various symbols, with each

Life of Pi is a movie about Pi, a shipwreck survivor, and his epic journey of discovery and faith. It is based on Yann Martel’s novel with the same name, and the movie, directed by Ang Lee, makes use of magical realism to convey many themes related to life and spirituality. Many significant symbols are also used to showcase the characteristics of magical realism. In particular, water and the carnivorous island were two important symbols that represented the theme of spirituality in Life of Pi.
The Quest of Pi The Life of Pi a quest with an strong influence of religion that is apparent throughout the story. “We are all born like Catholics, aren't we--in limbo without religion, until some figure introduces us to god” (Martel 58). Piscine Molitor Patel a young Indian teen has a unique infatuation with religion. Yann Martel, the author of Life of Pi, Gave Pi or Piscine an interesting life that is different from others.
Not everyone can stand eating or drinking unpleasant substances, survive while being blind, and live next to carnivorous creatures. Pi on the other hand withstands all this misfortune for nearly a year. Additionally, another theme that comes to mind is that survival instincts result in some

If faced with great challenges would you choose to stick by your morals, or do whatever it takes to survive? This is the same question Piscine Molitor Patel or “pi” as he likes to be called, faced. From being stranded at sea for 227 days, to losing his family, Pi’s story is truly extraordinary. Through the use of personification, similes and metaphors proves that hardships in life can truly change someone. Yann Martel describes Pi’s journey with great detail making a story that will truly make you believe in god.
Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India, once said, "Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you is determinism; the way you play, it is free will. " This idea is shown by how Pi used his free will to choose to think critically and positively to survive a desperate near death situation. He has to survive on the sea with a Bengal tiger in his boat for 227 days after his family was killed in a boat accident. Yann Martel’s Life of Pi influences spiritual advancements for secular readers through Pi 's balance of religion and science in his survival journey, and also the free democratic choice it gives to them.
With the combination of magical realistic events and Pi’s religious beliefs, Pi along with the reader a contemplates life’s concepts. From the very beginning, Pi makes his love and yearning for religion clear. As Life of Pi progresses, the protagonist picks up multiple religions as he travels through the novel. With the addition of first Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, Pi gains attention from leaders and priests of these faiths. Conflict commences with the religious leaders of these individual faiths.
He is unable to understand why the Lord isn’t listening to his prayers and why everything is detrimental to him. Keeping his religious beliefs at sea is very challenging for Pi, this leads him to experience feelings of disbelief towards God. Despite his doubts, Pi continues to pray and practice his religions. He eventually comes to the conclusion that once everything is taken away from him and he is in complete darkness, he will always have his faith. He admits that loving God is difficult, but it’s something he must do if he is to survive his journey across the ocean.
Yann Martel 's, Life of Pi, shows the many miracles of god by giving Pi many relations to him during the 227 days that he is lost at sea and still giving him the happy ending that he receives. The book makes many references to a couple different religions. Christianity being one the religions mentioned. When mentioned it is noticeable that Pi had relations to Jesus and Christianity before, during, and even after his time at sea. Some of these relations helped him survive and keep going all that time.
In essence, for everyday survival, it 's often better to maintain the important boundary between animals and humans, but through Pi 's story and relationship with Richard Parker, Martel shows us that staying open to what connects humans and animals, and all creatures, can provide an equally important key for staying alive. The Life of Pi, emphasizes the intensity of a predator-prey relationship, and it also reminds humans of their inner animal: we can all be dangerous to our fellow creatures. However, despite this, all animals have the potential and even a desire to connect beyond mere survival, looking for companionship and empathy across species
After the tragic sinking of a cargo ship, a lifeboat remains floating on the blue Pacific ocean. The only survivors are a sixteen year old teenager named Pi, a hyena, a zebra witch has a broken leg, a female orangutan and a 450 pound Royal Bengal tiger. It is a surprisingly entertaining story that involves the animal kingdom. The story itself does not concern itself overly with plausibility and at times Martel lets his imagination run wild, using allegory and metaphor to further the story (and to deliver his own personal messages on a variety of subjects). Life of Pi isn’t a fantasy or magical-realist fable, but a trilling adventure.
