The role of mass media in a democratic society deals with them freely showing us viewers the things that are going on in the world in our own country and in others. The media covers topics like politics, sex, weather, crimes, entertainment, and celebrity lifestyles. We as a society are hit over our heads with coverage of all these certain topics and it can be a negative and positive thing at the same time. We get the news from watching it on television, listening to it on the radio, or by browsing for it on the internet. The best ways to discuss this topic is by discussing the differences the differences of the role of the news media in a dictatorship than in a democratic society, the role of the news media vis-a-vis political leaders in a democratic society, the extent of where the news media fulfills this role, examples of good jobs the news media have done, examples of not very good jobs the news media have done, the roles of mass media in a democratic society, the relationship between the mass media and politicians in a democracy, examples of how the mass media inadequately living up to democratic ideals, and how well U.S. mass media …show more content…

Their relationship can be considered a love/hate one (Shea, 1998). They at times come to an understanding and others can lead to confusion or arguments. They at times can be friends with politicians while at others just be talking to them to do their job. There are times where a politician can be respectful and others where they’re rude towards a mass media worker. There are times where they can be interviewing a politician that happens to be corrupt and tries to pay them off or threatens them. Press is known as being free especially when it comes to them discussing politics. It can be a friendly relationship but still needs to be a professional
