The journal article examines two concerns about the modern media usage by American youth. Firstly, the hours spend in the media by children and teenagers in the USA are increasing. Secondly, media usage leads to serious consequences such as early smoking, alcohol drinking and violent and aggressive behavior. The article is very informative for my research essay for several reasons. To begin with, it provides statistical evidences, the results of different researches. Secondly, it looks at the situation from different perspectives. Counter arguments presents almost in all sections. The problem has created strong concerns since the beginning of the 21st century because nowadays 99% of household in the USA own a television. Moreover, children and teenagers see perfect body images everywhere they go because of the increase number of billboards and the easier access to various kinds of the media. According to the article, children and teenagers are exposed to over 200000 violent scenes in TV by the age of 18. It does not mean that every child and teen is going to grow up violent too. Much depends of the explanation of the true meaning of violence by the parents, the environment where child is growing up, the school where he or she studies and his or her friends. Surely there is a negative effect of violence in the media on the behavior of children and teenagers, but not everything is lost.
