Well before even my grandparents were born, my mother’s ancestors came to the United States from Germany and Ireland. My father's ancestors mainly came from Ireland. They all had the same goal in mind- to have a better life and to find good work in the US. Little did they know how much their later generations would thrive here with all the (natural)resources.
Considering the fact that all of my ancestors moved to the US a very long time ago (over a century) my families story mainly takes place in the states. I haved live in a Suburb outside of Chicago my whole life, and it has come with many perks. Lake Michigan is the source of my families drinking water, and it is show to be extremely beneficial to us. We are so fortunate to have such a large body of water near us- many people take for granted the clean drinking water that is of use to us at all times, but it really is such a blessing. The main benefit is that it keeps my family healthy. In contrast, a neighboring town from where I live used to get

My grandma on my dads side, for example, does not “believe” in recycling. My sister, cousins and I all give her such a hard time because we are going to be the people that have to deal with all the consequences of people like her working against the clean up of the planet. I would argue that the generation I am in knows more and cares more about the ecosystem than older generations because they won’t be around to have to deal with the ramifications or the clean up. There are many school clubs that work to learn about the planet’s natural resources and do their best to help preserve what we have. I was in a club last year in high school called the “Earth Action Club”. Our club put on a huge assembly for the whole school that taught kids about the measures that we can be taking on an everyday basis to help the
The first settlers of America came in hope of a promising future and new opportunities. This lead to the concept of the American Dream, and the belief that one can go from rags to riches. Many people want to achieve the "rags to riches" dream, and in order to pursue it, some immigrate to the United States. My great-grandfather wanted to achieve this dream as well.
Some people in the neighborhoods of the suburbs do their best to work and bring those areas which have been neglected to present-day standards because they don’t get enough attention from their legislators. I also saw affordable housing in the suburbs. The reason is that they want people living there to have the goods and services people would require. When they charge less cost for housing, people would have the money to make available the goods and services other people living there would require. This all boils down to the energy cost which is low there.
1. How many people migrated to American cities in the years from 1870-1920? Answer: Thirty-six million people: eleven from the countryside, twenty-five from foreign nations. 2.
Our community has always played a major part in the athletic depart of our school. Every year they hold a pie auction, where pies can go for up to $700. A community tradition that is not associated with the school is the County Fair. It is always more of a social gathering than anything else. People will always asking “if you have been to get a greasy fair burger”.
Did the benefits of the immigration boom in the late 1800s outweigh the drawbacks? During the 1800s, many people migrated to urban areas because they wanted jobs and land. Many people thought that migrating to urban areas would be like a perfect dream, however they were disappointed when they realized that the benefits of migration did not outweigh the drawbacks. During the late 1800s, millions of immigrants were coming to the United States. Most of the immigrants came from Europe.
In the late eighteenth century and early nineteenth century, a lot of immigrants left their home base to come to the United States for countless of reasons. One arrangement of settlers was the English foreigners, who were inspired by the stories of the United States and the ideals of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness” (English Immigration to America, n.d.). The English wanted to be brought from poverty into a place of abundance. Another group of settlers was the Chinese immigrants. They arrived in the United States because of opportunities on the California Gold Rush, the construction of the transcontinental, and abundant agriculture jobs (Wandrei, n.d.).
Today, the United States is a powerful, maybe even the most powerful, nation in the world. Yet, the United States is a much younger country compared to other world leaders. The Antebellum Era was the first transitional period that helped caused the country’s rapid upward mobility. From 1815 to 1850, this era included a mass western expansion due to an development of transportation and communication. In addition, the new transportation networks exhibit the dramatic expansion of manufacturing and industry.
I was born and raised in the city of Chicago, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Everyone from my father to my mother’s side of the family lives here, so if I suddenly leave to live in a different city, I would lose a big part of where I came from. Family is very important to me since I know I’ll always have some to look after me that is why when I think of Chicago, I think of all my family members here. Another unique thing about Chicago is how it’s always busy. Wherever you are, they are people running around trying to get to work, partying from night till the sun comes out, or protesting about something wrong with the government.
Do people really know what they are buying at the store? Do they know that most of the fruits and vegetables have pesticides in them? Do they know that there are some everyday activities that can help the environment? In Derrick Jensen and Stephanie McMillan “As the World Burns: 50 Simple Things You Can Do to Stay in Denial,” they talk about how everyone can help save our planet. For example, changing the light bulbs in the house to fluorescent light, riding bikes instead of driving, and recycling can also help.
They immigrated with one purpose: to have an opportunity to change their lives. Once my grandparents crossed over, they began to work in the agricultural fields in Michigan, Ohio, Florida, Texas, and
I have done a toy drive for the CT Children 's Med Center for 6th and 7th grade. NJHS is about helping our school and community. Helping with the toy drive helped me understand how to do things like that, which can help with any drives NJHS will plan in the future. I also helped with a clothing and toiletries drive for the women’s shelter. This can again help with planning any school drives that might be done by NJHS.
The US experienced massive immigration from Europe in the 1800s, which saw millions of people across the Atlantic to the New World. These people came from all corners of Europe including Ireland, Germany, Italy, Norway, and other scores of other nations and provinces. The people came as young men and women in search of jobs, others as families fleeing religious persecution and others as political radicals who were fleeing from the police. In addition, others came as farmers in search of land and a new start for that matter, and as paupers hardly capable of affording the rites of passage. This was the first wave of immigrants that shaped the US in considerable ways.
Not only do these clubs recognize academic excellence, they also provide many opportunities for community service. Blood drives, food drives and Operation Christmas Child are only a few of the projects that we participate in throughout the year. I am
Immigration and The American Dream Immigrants from the mid 19th century and early 20th century consisted of mainly Southern and Eastern Europe, Asia, and elsewhere. Immigrants motivations, experiences, and impacts shaped what an immigrant had to go through being a different person from another country. Although Americans dislike foreigners who came to the United States, immigrants had a role in political, economic, cultural, and social aspects of immigrants because of their motivations, experiences, and impacts in America. New Immigrants did not have it easy and went through obstacles natives, political figures, bosses and others had thrown at them.
The most common and typical American Dream is the dream of being super successful and wealthy. It’s been a common belief for many years that when you come to America you can get rich very easily and do anything you want. Even though most people have a lot better opportunities in America then their home countries, getting rich and famous is still pretty challenging for most people. Their are a few people that actually became rich and famous from coming to America, but its very few compared to those who don’t become rich and famous. Most people who come to the U.S. do not become rich but they do become more wealthy then they were in their home countries because of how poor some of the other countries are compared to America.
