No matter who you are or where you have come from, you have undoubtedly heard of the American Dream. The idea that no matter who you are or where you have come from, you can do whatever it is you desire in America. What was once one the main driving forces for immigrants to flock to the new world, has slowly changed over the years, but still holds its value in the eyes of those who are looking for a promising new place to live. The American dream might not hold the same awe inspiring sound that it once did, but for many generations before ours, it was a beacon of hope that helped build the foundation that the United States was built on. And still today the American dream might not be as achievable as it once was, but it is still an important symbol to the American ideology.

“Things usually work out in the end.” “What if they don’t?” “That just means you haven’t come to the end yet.” (Walls 259) By definition, The American Dream is both the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American as well as a life of personal happiness and material comfort as traditionally sought by individuals in the U.S. In the memoir The Glass Castle, the Walls’ family deals two major  social issues that conflict with the sensationalism surrounding the idea of their American Dream; alcoholism and poverty; furthermore, these two main social issues are essentially the reason their American Dream was not attained, but also not being on equal footing as others, in other words inequality throughout

The American dream is not as easy as people say it is. The American Dream is being able to afford the necessities you need, without having to struggle and suffer just to put food on a table for their families. People think it’s easy to live the American Dream, but little do they know that there are people out there struggling to support their family. The American Dream is difficult to achieve but very possible if people could find the opportunity and available to them.

The American Dream has been misinterpreted for many years. Many people believe it is dead and it can’t be achieved by anyone. But is the American Dream really unobtainable? Many people associate the American Dream with making a ton of money, a stable and enjoyable job, having a nice house, car, family, etc. But many people believe the American Dream is no longer obtainable. Is this true? Or is the people’s definition of the American Dream all wrong? Achieving the American Dream is still possible because it is achievable by anyone who pursues it, people have given it a different and untrue definition which other people believed, and it is attractive enough for immigrants to want to come here.

The meaning of the American Dream can be seen as ”A uniquely American vision of the country consisting of three central ideas. The American dream consists of a belief in America as the new Eden- a land of beauty, bounty, and unlimited promise; a feeling of optimism, created by ever expanding opportunity; and a confidence in the triumph of the individual.” Using this definition of the so called “American dream”, it seems to be a great representation of it at first, until you realize it includes everyone as the individual. From the beginning of the Civil war to the end of the War to End All Wars, the American Dream wasn’t possible due to the treatment of the Native Americans, the inequality between women and men, and the false promises given to the immigrants coming to our country in their time of need.

Many people fantasize about the American dream. In his book The Epic of America, James Truslow Adams (1931) describes the American Dream as a, “...dream of land in which life should be better and richer and full for everyone with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” The American Dream is the idea that if a person has a significant amount of money and friends that they will be happy. It is in our nature as humans to want to be the best and have nicer things than our peers. The majority of people try to achieve the American Dream so that they will feel more exceptional to others. Though, in The Great Gatsby, the American Dream is a fallacy that the character Nick realizes can never truly be attained.

The American dream is a term used in a lot of ways. Although research has shown that American dream can’t be attainable by most people, closer examination shows that it can be attainable by the following reasons. As Daniel J. Mitchell stated in New York Times im January 1st, 2015 “The United States is not a perfect country, but the American Dream is still a reality.” By that he meant that even with America’s Grow rate, poverty, unemployment rate in the past years and still going Americans can still chase their American dreams

The American Dream is to succeed in making everyone feel equal and supported. People 's view about the American Dream are different everywhere one goes. The American Dream does indeed still exist in todays society, and it is one 's job to try their hardest to succeed the values of their own American Dream. Because with everyone united one can succeed at achieving one’s own idea of the American Dream.

Dreams give meaning to life. They make it so much more worthwhile. I myself have The American Dream. I dream of someday living a life of complete joy and happiness with the man that makes my dreams come true. I dream of having a big, beautiful family to enjoy life alongside me. There are a lot of things in this world that would make the world a better place. And I feel that being a welder and working in sports medicine are two of them. I know that those two fields of work would affect the world around me. I would maybe one day work for the NFL and help all the players get better. Me helping the players will make the world better because everyone loves football. The players need to be taken care of so they can play efficiently. Wherever I end up, I know I will be helping people. I would initiate a program in the school system for student athletes.
