Nowadays, many countries in the world have a national service. National service, also known as Program Latihan Khidmat Negara, is a period of compulsory service in the military forces where a citizen is required to participate. The national service in Malaysia, which is a three-month program, was first introduced in December 2003. Teenagers who are 18 years old are chosen randomly through computerized process. There are many people who want the national service to be abolished. On the other hand, there are also many people who do not want the national service to be abolished in Malaysia. I personally firmly disagree that the national service should be abolished in Malaysia because it strengthens national unity and racial integration, instills the spirit of patriotism among the younger generation and helps to build character as well as leadership skills for the individual. Firstly, national service strengthens national unity and racial integration among the youth. Any country needs unity and integration among its people in order to live peacefully and obtain stability let alone Malaysia, which is a multi-racial and multi-religious country. Leadership, a drive to serve, and a strong character are crucial aspects of those who wish to live successful and prosperous lives, and unsurprisingly, are desirable traits for those in National Honor Society. Leadership is the ability to motivate, inspire, and guide others in forming a favorable outcome. Instances that I have exhibited leadership include being the captain for two years in a row for Black History Quiz Bowl and being both a counselor and teacher at a 4-H summer camp. The ability to serve helps bring out a person’s humility, selflessness, and deeper understanding of how the world interacts. Character is a culmination of traits that make up a well-rounded person, such as being altruistic or possessing comradeship.
Service, leadership, character and scholarship. These four pillars distinguish members of the National Honor Society and the outside world. Service regards in the mindfulness of aiding those who are in need of help. Leadership recognizes those partaking in assisting the community to grow. Character describes the define characteristics that one portrays to be.
Citizenship in Athens and Rome: Which was the Better System? 1. The idea of citizenship, or a status given by a government to its people, emerged in approximately 500 BCE. Citizens were responsible for playing significant roles in the life of the state or nation, but in turn were able to possess and benefit from certain rights. Compared to Athens, the Roman Republic's system of citizenship was better in the fact that it was more generous, although careful, in granting citizenship in which rights made the government much more organized.
Service, leadership, character, and scholarship; these are the fundamentals that the National Honor Society has based themselves on. I, as a student at Forney high school, am going to try and live up to each of these standards in hopes of joining the NHS. My qualifications may be unique; however, I believe that I fit the requirements in order to become a member. Service, how have I served or can be of service. When it comes to the topic of service most think of community service or serving a table.
Character traits shapes how everyone expresses their feelings and simultaneously build up great values within people who makes effort. However, a crisis may crush their identity instantly. Countless tremendous changes might occur during the process. For example, the loss of control over oneself might hurt someone. During the stage of crisis, human beings tend to rely on trustworthy people or else they are clueless on what to do.
National Honor Society (NHS) is “the nation's premiere organization to recognize outstanding high school students.” NHS “honors students who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship, leadership, service and character.” Within my three years of high school I have began to develop these traits, and NHS can help me by expanding my leadership skills, enhancing my character, providing me more scholarship opportunities, and increasing my service hours. There are so many different factors that make up a person's character. Moral and ethical quality is one of my strongest characteristics that make up my character.

Arnold Schwarzenegger once said, “Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public service improves the lives and the world around you, the greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring to your own life.” This quote clearly explains what service truly means to people that care about others from their heart. National Honor Society is an organization which recognizes students’ achievements not just with exceeding grades, but with service, leadership, and character. Serving others is an important and valuable pillar of the National Honor Society.
Another aspect to look at is the moral of the unit. Moral of soldiers must be intact to hold soldiers together in the harsh environments they may face. Soldiers are often asked to work for long hours in difficult situations. They are asked to deploy to foreign countries far from home and perform tasks many choose not to do. For a soldier and further a unit to succeed in these tasks their moral must remain high.

As Israelmore Ayivor, leadership entrepreneur, states “Your patriotism is not measured by what your country can do for you. It 's all about what you can do for your country for your own benefit and for the benefit of unborn generations!” In fact, citizenship is a circumstance when a citizen is under the regulation or tradition of a country in which they have rights, and responsibilities to do. Every citizen has proper liabilities towards the community, state and country in which they live, and as a liable person everyone should accept these obligations in terms of moral and personal duties. Generally, this sense of responsibility is indispensable because no one is able to escape from their accountabilities such as paying taxes, protecting
Most Efficient forms of the learning process: - Acc. to Lewin, learning is best facilitated in an environment where there is dialectic tension and conflict between immediate, concrete experience and analytic detachment. By bringing together the immediate experiences of the trainees and the conceptual models of the staff in an open atmosphere where inputs from each perspective could challenge and stimulate the other, a learning environment occurred with remarkable vitality and creativity. (Kolb.) Pillars of an efficient learning mechanism in group settings:- o Feedback:-There was a concern that organizations, groups and relationships generally suffered from a lack of accurate information about what was happening around their performance. Feedback became a key ingredient of T-groups and was found to ‘be most effective when it stemmed from here-and-now observations, when it followed the generating event as closely as possible, and when the recipient checked with other group members to establish its validity and reduce perceptual distortion’ (Yalom 1995: 489). o Unfreezing:-This was taken directly from Kurt Lewin’s change theory.
Furthermore, a study made by Amit et al about leadership-shaping experience found that a group of soldiers who had more leadership experiences were perceived to be leaders compared to those who did not . This points to the fact that exercises in self-development and discipline were key to building leadership qualities. Leaders as mentioned before are role-models in society and when those leadership qualities are nurtured, the society as a whole benefits from them.
However, the same cannot be said for the past few decades. This is because of selfish politicians playing the controversial “race card” to gain support from a particular race. These selfish actions have worsened the relationships between races and affected the harmony that was once our nation’s pride and joy. Thus, it is our role as Malaysians to find new ways of promoting racial harmony, because honestly, who would want to live in a country where everyone hates each other?
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
