Technology and Nature as allies: The Apple Watch didn’t fall far from the tree
In this essay I will demonstrate criticality towards binary opposition and explain how Apple Watch’s interactivity illustrates the complexity of relations between human, ‘nature’ and ‘technology’. I will define the qualities associated with words like ‘nature’, and ‘technology’, then give my conclusion as best I could.
The word Nature is in result of the Latin term ‘Natura’ which means, birth. Human perceives nature as something they are born with. Nature is a very broad topic is but understood to be, features and produce found on earth, this includes humans. Nature is the rudimentary characteristics of something, it is not man made, so all materials brought to

Technology further said to be behaviour in the form of systematic ruling (Dusek 2003: 32). In many instances it has been argued that “Mother Technology” is slow destroying Mother Nature. Humans accept deforestation and in turn allow technology as replacement, for E.g. housing developments and infrastructure. Industrialization is one other example of technology taking place of nature. Although industrialization has proven to be a positive aspect of technology, seeing large production of foods, clothing, tools etc. this has resulted in a polluted state, conveying an offensive act against nature. But technology seems to want to be one with nature or at least imitate it. As an example, houses are unnatural artefacts but swallows have been building nests and nets forever, nature produced natural light man built street lights. Technology replicates the nature of Mother Nature, so some might regard technology as artificial nature. As much as they are contradictory technology aims and aspires to be accessible …show more content…
This Watch has a monitor which measures a person’s heart rate which is unnatural but healthy and informative to ones state of wellbeing, this means that naturalism also has it downfalls. In this day and age technology has been driven to a point of it lacking boundaries with human, but I believe boundaries are based on how one sets them, meaning human choose the way in which they would like to interact with the technological system. Between the Apple Watch and the user the boundaries are determined by the user, so there is no lack thereof. Apple Watch tells the user to exercise more, move more, it gives guides and directions it marks up communication from people within a distance but the question is do you need it to do all that or are you willing to do it on your
Over time, gadgets and gizmos have taken attention from many Americans. Maggie Jackson gives prominence to this point in “Distracted: The Erosion of Attention and the Coming Dark Age.” According to Jackson, technology has become too advanced for attention’s sake. In her essay, Jackson states that “we are nurturing a culture of social diffusion, intellectual fragmentation & sensory detachment. In this new world, something is amiss.
, however, I have witnessed something that profoundly troubles me. WE CAN 'T SEEM TO KEEP OUR FACES OUT OF OUR SMARTPHONES FOR EVEN A MINUTE OR TWO.” ..... So far it seems that not only do we have the world at our fingertips, but the world is wrapped around its
Nature is a place of beauty, but not everybody completely understands that. Nature is a place to be alone just by yourself. Nature is there for your comfort as it lays a blanket of trees over your head. Nature is like a friend, but more loyal. It stays true to you as you are its guest.
Nature has the ability to lead one to an improved comprehension of life. That is the point that Ralph Waldo Emerson, famous American essayist, wanted to convey to his readers in his long essay, Nature. In the essay, Emerson is saying that each and every person needs to broaden their own unique grasping of the universe that surrounds them. He is expressing this because he believes that people take nature for granted and do not really understand its purpose and impact. The author is stating all of this with a persuasive tone.
Hamlet’s Blackberry is a comprehensive book that evaluates the technological revolution by examining the history of mankind as well as author William Powers’ personal experiences. The class discussions that accompanied the book opened up the sharing of ideas about technology use in the modern day. Through reading the book and participating in the discussion it has become clear that this information can be divided in three different topics. They are as follows: the role of technology in our individual lives, how technology affects our lives, and coping methods for when technology gets out of control.
People today can already see the social impacts that technology has had on there lives today, when comparing them to 5 to 10 years ago. Engineers and scientist are already trying to figure how to program our laws into robots and make them as safe as possible to be around humans. But with programmers trying to make robots as humanly possibly it does make you question and rethink yourself as to what direction is technology heading towards. The aspects of this essay brings up not just the currents issues but also further issues that we may have over natural resources. To build more technology, you need more minerals and much of today’s minerals are controlled by foreign countries.
The author, Richard Louv, write on how children now have become much too engaged in technology world and that they don't pay attention to nature enough. During this passage, tries to persuade his audience to reconnect with nature and reduce their use of technology and inform how technology has changed people. He uses his appeal to wistfulness, anecdotes, and rhetorical questions to achieve his purpose. In this passage, an appeal to wistful emotion is used.
However there are dangerous things about nature even if humans need nature. The inclusion of nature in the good mind’s creation suggests that humans want a simplistic life in unity with nature, but without the chaos of nature in its purest
Regardless, nature doesn’t appear to care much how ‘human’ technology actually is, only that it is not meant to remain standing if mankind is not there to protect it. If humanity wished to be remembered by Earth, it
Nature and men have always been in conflict. Even though humans are part of Nature, we see ourselves as entities unrelated to it. Since the prehistory, we have been using Nature at our favor mostly to feed ourselves.
Technology can be defined as “the branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment”. (n.d.) Therefore, when we speak of technological evolution we can say that it is an “innovation and technology related hypothesis that describes the fundamental change of society through technical development”. Different theorists have their own perspective on the evolution of technology but, although each of their views differs from another, they shared certain common features, mechanism, and incidence in technology. Some theorists have developed distinct approaches to understanding the nature of the technological process and the relationship between technological development and the social world.
In the article “Where Are the Missing Masses? The Sociology of a Few Mundane Artifacts”, Bruno Latour explores how artifacts can be designed to shape human action and that technology mostly rely on human interaction to function. He argues that technologies shape the decisions we make, the effects our actions have, and the way we move through this world. Providing examples from the door closers, and engineers among others, Latour emphasize the importance of the interaction between humans and technology. He studies the relationship between humans (the creator) and machines (the creation) and shows how the use of technology can help achieve certain goals and values.
• • The apple watch has popularised the market of smartwatches which is something companies like Samsung could not do. This is due to the clever marketing strategies of apple, and in turn gives them an upper hand in the smartwatch market as they are the centre of attention. • Apple can use its advantages in the smart watches in order to shift towards a new market of bio-technological gadgets. The development of the bio-sensors in the apple watch could provide a gateway for development into another market. Weaknesses
They imply that life would be hard to live with the lack of new technologies, however, it becomes ironic because life is already at risk due to technology. Making technological advances and preserving the environment and human health will not be possible because of the pollution resulting of the waste output, the depletion of natural resources and the global warming resulting of the emission of carbon dioxide. To begin with, the waste output of the new technologies pollutes the lands, the water and the air of the earth. An average computer screen contains up to 8 pounds of lead and 2 to 5 percent of the trash in American landfills belong to electronics waste.
Technology refers to the use of tools, machines, materials, techniques and sources of power to make work easier and more productive. Apparently, people nowadays cannot live without science technology. There is nothing to puzzle or amaze if the people around the world have a mobile phone. Almost everything around us is the outcome or the wonderful result of technology. Development is closely related with technology.
