The Chinese traditional value is characterized by conservation of harmony and emphasis of collectivism derived from the general spirit of Confucian, while the Western traditional value tends to focus on aggressiveness and individuality. Due to its unique historical background of feudal society ,the ethic system of the Chinese society appears to be more stiff and promissory, while social ethic of Western countries is characterized by freedom and acknowledgment of individual initiative. These differences may appear in a relatively subtle way in translation, as this particular type of ideology has been assimilated into people's sub-consciousness and is usually taken for granted.
When there is some negative news report about other countries from western reporters, Chinese news translators have to make clear judgment through investigations about whether the statement is appropriate from China's perspective. It is above all important for China to maintain its neutral and impartial attitude towards other countries with the purpose to gain their respect, trust and support in

When translating news, translators need to rewrite news to make their people understand and preserve the stability of their own politics and society. To accomplish the task, they would take measures to rewrite the news by adding some explanatory words or omitting unnecessary information. As a part of the literary system, poetic also exert influence on the translation of news. Maybe because of its uniqueness, poetic manipulates the news translation to a small degree. As patrons play an important role in the news writing as well as news rewriting, it’s worth studying the manipulation of news translation by patronage. Patrons not only control the distribution of news, but also influence the materials and subjects that are to be translated and patrons may even determine the fate of
China took the very opposite approach. Most of the Chinese population was against any foreign presence or westernization and saw no benefit from it. China’s reaction to the situation was to completely ignore it and refuse to modernize or westernize. This reaction harmed China in many ways and as a result opened
In the two-step dance with China, the European nations raced to carve China into mercantile spheres of influence. The U.K fought repeated opium wars. Nonetheless, the U.S maintained a more nuanced, enlightened open door policy built upon free markets. Additionally, the administration in the U.S pursued a relatively peaceful policy Vis a Vis China based upon shared interests in trade and political stability (Nathan & Gilley, 2003). Chino says to himself,”I realized that by reinventing culture, they were reinventing themselves. I wanted to reinvent myself too. I no longer wanted the world to be just my neighborhood anymore”. Chino is starting to realize if he wants to reinvent himself that he would have to change social expectations humans must bond in order to belong to their social group. For example”Most women under this culture are responsible, religious and self sacrificing.
China is devoted to unity, independence, and peace (Document 3). The conference was designed to ensure that the Chinese people had a say in the formation of their government. It also ensured that it would respect its citizens' rights and freedoms. It outlined a vision of a unified, independent, and peaceful China. It also
The reason why I want to be part of the National English Honor Society is because English is my favorite subject. Since I was young, I have always been the reader in my family and it has always been one of my best subjects in school. Ever since I was young, I have always been the reader in my family. Reading has been my escape from the stress of school and work and is an outlet for me to relax. I often imagine myself as the character of the stories and try to figure out what I would do if I was the character in real life.
While many of these governments or controlling parties may make questionable decisions for their country and nation, such as conformity, strict rules about reproduction, and cruel and unusual punishment, each nation can justify it. Because of the Michael Fay case punishment, if another American teenager thought it would be smart to vandalize Singapore as Michael Fay did, he wouldn’t because of the harsh punishment that Singapore enforces. There is no true “important matter” similar to how “easy is different for everyone” since each individual always values one thing more than another. Ultimately, these texts are a great representative for displaying how individuals from different cultures all have
John Hay, A US Secretary, states “The policy of the government of the united states will bring about permanent peace…”. (US Intervention in China) The actions of the US will bring and keep peace to all of it’s allies and colonies. Because of us assistance, China is a global powerhouse today, with a great economy and plenty of trade. Not all nations, however, got only great benefits from American Imperialism.
People of different cultures often depend on the one-sided image the media lays out for them; an image that is not necessarily the best
Delbanco gives the example of a Chinese exchange student in class to show how different education is for different countries with different values. The Chinese exchange student explains the main difference when she says, “Coming from a culture in which a ‘standard answer’ is provided for every question, I did not argue with others even when I disagreed” (Delbanco 222). In China, she was discouraged to question her teachings because China is taught to believe what they are taught to be true, until discovered otherwise. It was a shock for her when she arrived in America and the students are openly questioning their professors. If she had not gone to college in America, then she would not have never openly questioned her teachings.
The transition of power in China changed the dynamics of post-World War II relations. For the United States, the so-called “Loss of China” was a a catastrophe, not only because the US supported Chiang Kai-shek in the last few years, but also because it seems to be a victory for the Soviet Union and the global Communism. For China, in 1949 started for the first time in its history the possibility to build foreign relations without being “suppressed by unequal treaties” by western powers. But China‘s relations to other countries remained very complicated and complex.
As readers, we must be skeptical of the storyteller’s motives for, as in the nature of storytelling, information is manipulated to convey a certain meaning to the reader; to trust a writer to communicate objectively is dangerous as with explication important information can
A translator may subject him-/herself either to the original text, with the norms it has realized, or to the norms active in the target culture, or in that section of it which would host the end product. Translation is a complicated task, during which the meaning of the source-language text should be conveyed to the target-language readers. In other words, translation can be defined as encoding the meaning and form in the target language by means of the decoded meaning and form of the source language. Different theorists state various definitions for translation.
The film Lost in Translation follows two Americans visiting Tokyo during important transitional periods in their lives. Charlotte is a recent college graduate trying to figure out her career while also moving on from the honeymoon phase of her new marriage. Bob Harris is an actor essentially going through a mid-life crisis as he sorts through life post-movie stardom and struggles to maintain a relationship with his overbearing wife. The two find each other in a hotel bar as a result of their inability to sleep and form a connection based on their mutual isolation in both their relationships and the city of Tokyo. The film touches on the importance of communication as well as what it is like to be a foreigner alone in a vastly different culture.
