Nursing and midwifery is a stressful profession due to requirements of patients’ care. It requires a high degree of self-regulation and EI. Especially when this care is provided to the women during the stress of pregnancy and child birth. Nursing students work as caregivers in clinical areas early in their education. So, EI is required to help them to control their emotions; as inability to control emotions can lead to increase anxiety, stress and negatively affect the quality of care.[22]Emotion is fundamental to nursing and midwifery practice consequently, EI is considered as an important skill for nurses. It can affect the quality of their work including clinical decision-making, critical thinking, implementation of nursing care plan, communication and knowledge use in practice. Teaching staff in nursing schools should know that nursing students have different levels of emotional maturity that help them to overcome a lot of stress present in this profession. They should also consider that the way to deal with emotions is …show more content…
The former had investigated "the relationship between EI and clinical performance in an occupational therapy training program". The latter had studied “EI and its correlation to performance as a resident, on medical college students". Their results indicated that there were no significant correlation between the students’ EI s and their clinical performance. The cause of the difference in findings between these studies and that of the present research is probably due to the difference in the comparative educational program. While the medical and occupational therapist students depend on their hands in their clinical performance skills rather than social and communication skills, nursing students depend on interpersonal relationship and social communication skills as they are the milestone of their clinical
1. The metaparadigm of nursing illustrates the collective worldview of the shared concepts of the discipline, which are: the person, environment, health and nursing (1). The nursing metaparadigm is the framework for many nursing theories, values, and theoretical models, which help guide an advanced practice nurse in selecting appropriate interventions established by their chosen conceptual model. A conceptual model or advanced practice nursing theory provides an advanced practice nurse a logical structural model to follow, which is aligned with the discipline’s expectations. Advanced education prepares advanced practice nurses to employ a superior degree of clinical, research based and theoretical knowledge (2).
It is important that nurses acquire skills such as communication skills- both verbal and non-verbal, therapeutic, and clinical decision making among others. The ability of a nurse to communicate well and make appropriate clinical decision, determines the success of holistic assessment in nursing practice. There is no doubt that the capability of a nurse to provide the best and quality care is largely dependent on her or his ability to communicate, judge and make clinical decisions.
Many nurses do not get involved in health care policy even though the nurse should. Most nurses do not know much about health care policies, some view it as “foreign and complex” (Falk, 2014, p. 203). I consider myself one of the nurses that do not know much about health care policy and I am one of the nurses that do not get involved in health care policy. I do not get involved with health care policy because I was never taught about it, so I do not want to get involved in something that I do not know much about. I look forward to learn more about health policies and becoming more involved in health policies.
In the world of college, there are many majors or professions to choose from. Whatever career I choose to take, I know that there are many doors open for me to walk through. Planning for life after high school, I am considering going into the medical field to become a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nurse (NICU). A NICU Nurse is a nurse who cares for premature and critically ill newborns that are born in need of immediate medical attention.

Christian nurses are given the unique ability to provide compassionate and spiritual care to a variety of patients. The purpose of this paper is to explain my definition of nursing as a caring art, describe how Christian faith impacts caring, describe my personal philosophy of nursing while identifying my own personal values and beliefs, and discus how my beliefs impact my nursing practice. To me, nursing as an art of caring, is defined as caring for the whole person, building meaningful relationships, and providing compassionate care. Holistic nursing care involves healing a person physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I believe the art of nursing is embedded in the steps we take to address problems that are not simply physical.
I was fortunate to be able to observe academic education of nursing students at DeSales University. This education was held in a classroom setting on Mondays and Wednesdays. My observation time was 16 hours in which I observed Alyssa Robertson prepare for class, prepare exams, give lectures, provide hands on education, assist students in learning, and provide support to students. I also observed many student interactions and learning techniques. The learners were NU 220 Pharmacology and NU 230 Therapeutic Nursing Interventions students.
According to Julia Wood (2004), “communication is a systemic process in which individuals interact with and through symbols to create and interpret meanings. However, Sheppard (1993) suggests that, in the nurse–patient relationship, communication involves more than the transmission of information; it also involves transmitting feelings, recognizing these feelings and letting the patient know that their feelings have been recognized (M, 1993)”. It is a two way process. The patient conveys their fears and concerns to their nurse and helps them make a correct nursing diagnosis.
These skills include nurse-patient relationship skill, interactional skills, basic physical examination skills, clinical encounter across the life span, therapeutic communication skills, positive attitudinal skills etc. Assessing the development of nursing skills in students should be done often and acquiring of these nursing skills should also be a continuous learning process. This indicates that extensive experiences and supervision from mentors, preceptors, supervisors, teachers, considerable time on task and involvement of students are necessary to achieve a considerable nursing skill performance. The students’ interest in practice and the environment also influences the development and acquisition of nursing skills. In this case, students’ goals should include increased self-knowledge and scientific awareness in addition to their gradual improvement in professional nursing practice.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect. Nursing is giving of yourself to the care of people and community, while expecting nothing in return. It is having compassion for people and their health, being a humanitarian, and making sure patients receive the best care possible. Nurses must also deal with families of patients with gentleness and kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also.
Introduction The aesthetic principle of nursing is respect for life, dignity, and rights of the patient. Aesthetical responsibilities of nurses in the process of working with the patient are a certain set of actions for the unconditional implementation. For example, respect for the patient and their right to self-determination, the identification of the will of anything, the promise to do no harm, to keep the word, and to cooperate with the patient. A patient is a person who needs nursing care and gets it.
For the majority of people, pursuing a career in the medical field is a career which should be avoided at all costs. Whether this profession is a surgeon, a nurse, or a psychiatrist, the long hours of study and work (which are necessary for these occupations), are not in most people’s definition of a “fun job.” In addition, after the long years of study come to an end, the most feared moments arise, the time to pay student loans. Nevertheless, none of these obstacles intimidated Juan Delgado in order to pursue his dream as a healthcare professional, more importantly, to help our community. Delgado, the oldest of two, was born on December 3rd,1991.
Therefore, People who are more capable of solving problems enjoy cognitive, emotional and communication skills at a higher level. They are able to build healthy relationships and suffer from less depression and anxiety [6,7,8]; Moreover, they have higher confidence and motivation to efficiently deal with problems [9]. The art of nursing requires knowledge, skills and expertise. Problem-solving is an essential skill contributing greatly to effective nursing performance [10]. Problem-solving skills and knowledge-based decision-making are the expected behavior of nursing students [11].
As a child, I dreamed of acquiring a career in Nursing. I was always fascinated by the amount of respect that nurses received during my doctor visits throughout my childhood. There are many reasons why I chose to major in Nursing such as the ability to take care of someone, the money and benefits that the career offered, as well as job stability and flexibility. On of my main reasons for pursing Nursing is the ability to care for someone other than myself.
Importance of nurses A nurse is a health care professional who is engaged in the practice of nursing. Nurses are men and women who are responsible (along with other health care professionals) for the treatment, safety and recovery of acutely or chronically ill or injured people, health maintenance of the healthy, and treatment of life-threatening emergencies in a wide range of health care settings. Nurses may also be involved in medical and nursing research and perform a wide range of non-clinical functions necessary to the delivery of health care. Nurses develop a plan of care, sometimes working collaboratively with physicians, therapists, the patient, the patient 's family and other team members.
