Objectives of the study performed are; 1. To assess the current working conditions in terms of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) in assigned place (Atta-ur-Rehman School of Applied Biosciences). 2. To find out existing potential OH&S hazards in working areas. 3. Sorting out the lope holes and gaps in providing OH&S in working environment. 4. To provide recommendations, and practices to provide healthy working conditions and avoiding risks and hazards.
1.2 Introduction Workers all around the globe are exposed to increasing threats which includes exposure to dusts, gases, toxic substances, noise, slippery floors, unsafe plants and equipment, unsafe machinery, fire, extreme temperature, radiations, poisonous fumes, toxic metals and chemicals, falls from height, vibration and extreme temperatures, etc. The occupational safety conditions vary enormously between countries, economic sectors and social groups. 1.3.7 Occupational Safety The maintenance of a work environment that is relatively free from actual or potential hazards that can injure employees. OHSAS 18000 is an international occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) specification. It comprises two parts, 18001 and 18002. 18001 is an Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS) for health and safety management systems. It helps organization to control its occupational health and safety risks. It is the standard against which organizations seeks certification and are assessed. 18002 provide guidelines for the implementation of 18001, and explain the requirement and how to work towards implementation and registration.
