Classification of organic manure
Manure can be classified in to bulky organic manures and concentrated organic manures based on concentration of nutrients. The classification of organic manures is give below:-
Organic manure

Bulky organic manure (BOM) Bulky organic manure contains small percentage of nutrients and they are applied in large quantities. Some important bulky organic manure are:-
• Farm yard manure (FYM)
Farm yard manure is a mixture of cattle dung, urine, litter or bedding material, portion of fodder not consumed by cattle and other domestic wastages like ashes etc. collected and dumped into a pit or heap in the corner of the back yard.

• They help to control several soil born diseases.
• It helps to maintain long term soil fertility.
Concentrated organic manure (COM)
Concentrated organic manures have higher percentage of major plant nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium as compare to bulky organic manure. These are also known as organic nitrogen fertilizers. These are made from materials of animals and plant origin.
Plant origin based concentrated organic manure
• Oil cake
After oil extracted from oil seeds, the remaining solid portion is dried as cake which can be used as manure . the oil cakes are two types:-
1. Edible oil cake which can be safely fed to livestock ;eg. Groundnut oil cake, coconut oil cake.
2. Non edible oil cake which are not fir for feeding livestock ;e.g. castor oil cake , neem oil cake , mahua oil cake.
Both edible or non edible oil cakes can be used as a manure. Jatropha oil cake pongamia oil cake cotton seed oil cake
