Paper insulation has a direct relation with the whole life cycle of the transformer. An arithmetical expectation is whether transformer can work safely for 25 years. If lowest temperature limit remains 65-95C°. If the dielectric strength of the paper insulation is poor paper will break its atomic structure. It is due to the ageing process. Ageing is done due to the oxidation, over heating and overloading. Which effects badly the dielectric strength of the paper insulation.

Insulation with high dielectric strength is required rather than phenol based paper to use. Now compare the dielectric strength of phenol base paper with pressboard. Press board has high dielectric strength. But the main issue that has occurred it can face only mechanical stress. In modern pattern oil resistant coating is used in embedded insulation but it cannot withstand mechanical stresses as compared to the oil impregnated paper insulation. In recent years SF6has replaced with oil impregnated paper insulation.SF6 with high pressure of 5 bar is used as alternative of oil that acts as an insulator. A question arose whether new design of transformer can bear the SF6 gas pressure greater than 5 bar or not. After different experiments in field it has been inferred that 600MVA and 500KV transformer are suitable forSF6insulating system. In recent past, for power transformer oil diffused paper and oil immersed paper press boards have been used. Now wide man transformer paper board sheets are used. They have high dielectric strength. These press boards have thickness 1mm-10mm but it depends upon capacity and voltage rating of the transformer. Auto transformer that have high voltage rating wide man press board sheets are used. Hi Ryanne, I actually just saw something on the World News tonight about how the U.S. Congress believe that there are to many test in general for students. The Congress is contemplating cutting the amount of testing that is pushed on students. I think this would be a wonderful thing for teachers and students.
