Which is better paper or plastic? There are many issues that come to mind when someone is choosing between paper and plastic. Paper is made from trees, which are a renewable resource. Paper needs great deal of energy when it is being produced. Cutting down trees to make paper has two negative impacts on the environment. During the manufacturing process, greenhouse gases are produced. These gases affect the number of trees that have been cut down because there are fewer trees to absorb the greenhouse gases. Paper can be recycled into paper pulp, which is the used to create many new items that are made out of paper. When paper is being recycled, there are many chemicals that are being used to treat the pulp in order for it to be reused. Plastic is made from oil, which is a non-renewable resource. The oil has a big affect on the environment. Like paper, plastic also requires a great deal of energy when it is being produced. Plastic can also be recycled. Both paper and plastic are convenient. The cons of paper are the manufacturing process is causing pollution. Paper can be torn easily. Paper can only be reused a certain amount of time before it can no longer be recycled.
