The first career path I chose to research is that of a pharmacist. I believe that being a pharmacist is a good fit for me because I have always wanted to work in the medical field. I learned that pharmacists work with chemistry and math on a daily basis. Since I enjoy those subjects in school, I would enjoy my job as a pharmacist. Someone told me that pharmacists have to be quite meticulous and I believe that I am capable of doing that. I don’t know everything about being a pharmacist, but doing some research has helped me learn more about the career. With all the research I’ve done, I actually became more interested in pursuing this career path. One entry level job associated with being a pharmacist is a pharmacy technician. Requirements for this position in California involve earning “an associate degree in pharmacy technology” or completing a certified pharmacy technician program. Another requirement is “registering with the California State Board of Pharmacy” for a license (Marotta, Ryan). Pharmacy technicians perform tasks such as “receiving written prescription or refill requests, verifying that information is complete and accurate, prepacking bulk medicines, filling bottles with prescribed medications, typing and affixing labels, and mixing pharmaceutical preparations” …show more content…

Earning a degree in a pharmacy type program is favorable as well as having the correct licenses. The lower level job leading up to a pharmacist is a pharmacist technician. According to Naviance Family Connection, technicians “prepare medications under the direction of a pharmacist. They also may “measure, mix, count out, label, and record amounts and dosages of medications according to prescription orders.” Being a technician before a pharmacist is not required, but the job does give a person more experience in the field.
