Charity is the voluntary giving of help; it means willing to help others. Helping others is a valuable, pure, and kind thing to do, and charities change the life of people in need every day. Even small amount of donation could help someone, it could save a life, put a smile on someone’s face and make a difference. Furthermore, donating has a major impact on us and on our society it can transform you into a more important part of the community, which will benefit our society. Donating is important but knowing to whom to donate is more important, as Aristotle claimed “To give away money is an easy matter in any man’s power. But to decide to whom to give it, and how large and when, and for what purpose and how, is neither in every man’s power nor an easy matter." …show more content…
GiveDirectly a nonprofit organization founded in 2008 by Paul Niehaus, Michael Faye, and Rohit Wancho, to help poor people in Kenya and recently it developed to Uganda. It is currently among GiveWell’s top recommended charities. GiveDirectly gives money to the poorest households in Kenya and Uganda. In Kenya there are many kids who spend days with no food, adults who have dreams and goals but do not have money to accomplish them. The population in Kenya is overgrowing; there are so many people and no enough food. “Kenya’s population has tripled over the past 30 years, leading to increasing pressure on natural resources, a widening income gap and rising poverty levels that erode gains in education, health, food security, employment and incomes.” …show more content…

So, how did colonialism affect Kenya? The British imposing a harder religion that they had brought along, how people were being treated, and agricultural services are all positive and negative effects of European colonialism throughout

Virtue, compassion, and benevolence are all qualities in our society that are considered good. In history, there are figures like Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. that have displayed these characteristics, but then again, demonstrations of goodness are shown by people every day. Goodness or righteousness from people has always thrived, even in the worst periods of humanity. Therefore, mankind is inherently good as shown in Elie Wiesel’s novel Night, where this notion is illustrated through kind acts during his difficult times and through charities which give people hope.
The act Donating Organs, either prior to death or after death, is considered by many to be one of the most generous, selfless and worthwhile decisions that one could make. The decision to donate an organ could mean the difference of life or death for a recipient waiting for a donor. Organ donations offer patients new chances at living more productive, healthy and normal lives and offers them back to families, friends and neighborhoods. Despite the increasing number of donor designations in the past few years, a shortage still exists in donors.
The Giver Compare/Contrast Essay When some people hear the words ‘perfect society’ what do they think of? Take a look at our society, then take a look at Jonas’s society, between our two societies there are some comparisons and a vast amount of differences. For instance, the rules are different, as well as their family units and their individuality. While our society is more on the modern side, Jonas’s society is plainer. When it comes to the rules in our society, we don’t normally think of rules that are very extreme.
Alana Ellis Carolyn Crane English 1C 6/26/2017 Paper 1 Many people say that they want to end world hunger, stop global warming, create world peace. To these people, the answers seem to lie in charity. Charity is defined as “generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering” and, “an institution engaged in relief of the poor” (Merriam Webster Dictionary online). Motivated by the first definition of charity, people are driven to engage in trying to help those in need and alleviate their suffering.
Even though generosity is a virtue, installing this sense of charity can actually lead to the people who are doing the volunteer work to feel like they are superior to those they are
He wants to do something to compensate internal malaise. He is pious believer. He deludes himself into thinking everything he does is the God’s will. My reasons for wanting to serve Peace Corps Volunteer are personal and intellectual. First of all, I want to share the knowledge I have acquired throughout my life by making myself available and becoming part of something bigger. I’ve had the opportunity to attend school and I recently completed a graduate degree; this has been a great accomplishment not only for me, but for my family as well. Therefore serving as a PCV would be a rewarding experience not only for me but for those who have supported me throughout my life, since I will contribute towards a bigger cause by helping to improve the lifestyle of less fortunate people. After successfully receiving a graduate degree, it is expected that I find a permanent job related to my field of
The association of poverty with Africa goes together like apple pie and America. From the advertisements of malnourished, African children to our education, or rather lack of education, about African countries in the American school system, the concept of Africa as an impoverished continent has been engrained into our minds. This rhetoric of Africa has lasted over decades, with a substantial amount of aid being given to African countries to rectify this problem. And yet, sixteen of the world’s poorest countries were identified as being in sub-Saharan Africa as of 2013. This insinuates that foreign countries and organizations that provide aid, need to reevaluate why aid isn’t making a bigger impact at fixing the problem.

Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
