The present environment that we are living now is polluted and not suitable for human growth especially for young children but we are still continuously harming the environment. Nowadays, the human race are producing goods that are harmful to the environment and they are not aware of the effect of their action to the people around them and the environment. According to the research I found, it shows that the level of air pollution and water pollution in Kuala Lumpur is high. In addition to that, the dirtiness is in moderate state. As a result, the people around them will get infected with disease. Some of the causes for people to become ill are air pollution and water pollution. Firstly, air pollution is caused by the factories that are producing …show more content…
Firstly, the type of people that are mostly affected by bad air are patients that have heart disease or lung disease, pregnant women, outdoor workers, children under the age of 14 and athletes that exercise outdoors. When breathing in highly polluted air, it will have a permanent health effect like damaging cells in your lungs. Also, being expose to polluted air for a long period will decrease in lung capacity, preterm birth, shortening life span, asthma, cancer and changes the function of lungs. Despite the fact that you are healthy, you will also get temporary symptoms such as, eyes, nose and throat irritation, coughing and short of breath. Other than that, due to the pollution in water, the fishes in the sea will die and we might not get the vitamins that fishes have to make us …show more content…
I think that the present environment is not suitable for human growth especially for children and senior citizens that are not strong enough to fight against the disease they will get if they live in a highly polluted environment. The people are egotistical to only produce products that benefits them but do not care about the waste they also produce while making the products. In the future, if no one is putting any effort or interest into stopping these activities, the world will eventually be even more polluted than the present consequently causing children and senior citizens to grow up in such environment to get infected with
Environmental illnesses can also be caused by the lifestyle of a person which depends on what a person eats or where the person lives. Chemicals in cigarettes can cause lung cancer so if a person is an active smoker, he or she may have lung cancer caused by the chemicals. Nutritional deficiencies occur when the body does not have the required amount of nutrients so this leads to different health problems like a defected bone growth, indigestion or even skin problems. Cardiovascular diseases are normally related to the heart or the blood vessels so these may be diseases like coronary heart diseases, strokes, peripheral arterial disease and more which may cause diabetes, obesity. Mainly, it is the person’s diet and lifestyle which may prevent such diseases.
The polluted cities exposed people to diseases and dirty homes. The Working conditions had an adverse effect on the health of the workers .In Document 3 Joseph Hebergam states in his testimony “he told me that it was caused by the dust in the factories from overwork and sufficient diet”. The tight spaces that were worked in would get filled with dust that would cause many health problems.
Beginning with a quote like “What kills people changes over time, but who is likely to die remains the same” is a mentors eye opener. No one wants to die. So we start to struggle and think of all these factors that can lead to illness. There is smoking, money, race, gender, if one received prenatal care, martial status, family structure, and socioeconomic status. The list goes on!
The reason why I say that is because I was walking through a property that belonged to a business and I saw the workers of these business dumping waste and polluting the area that not only belonged to the property but that was around it as well. Trains were destroying the area by plummeting the soil with its rods which is absolutely terrible because people benefit of soil for many things such as food and clothes which are the basic necessities one needs to live. It’s already bad enough that workers pollute the environment but now also the factories they work in as well which be releasing dirty smoke that harms the air that we breathe as well now. That’s why our natural resources that come in limited amounts are being wasted and damaged by these big companies and
In the feed the author depicts a future with no forests or real wildlife. He shows a grim world where everything from the air to water is polluted ;to me this vaguely resembles the world conditions of today. When we look around the globe we see many places that have already reached a point where it is dangerous to even live a single day because they are so polluted. For example, living a day in Delhi, India is like smoking 20 cigarettes a day. Also, rain forests that provide a significant amount of oxygen and fresh water are being cut down at an alarming rate.
About 71 percent of our planet Earth is covered by water, and the majority comes from the oceans (about 96.5 percent of all Earth’s water). It remains as the most expansive, diverse, and mysterious places on planet Earth. But it is being threatened by the pollution by people and nature itself. By polluting the habitat of marine organism will indirectly affect the ecosystem of the marine life. Marine life is dying and as the result the oceanic ecosystem is threatened.
These factors are known as the Social Determinants of health. “The social determinants of health are the conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and age, including the health system” (WHO). Dalgren & Whitehead (1991) image of the social determinants of health aims to show the relationship between the person, their environment and their health. The modifiable factors, people’s age, gender and race lie in the centre surrounded by non modifiable factors like profession, housing, education and public policy. There is a direct relationship between people’s environment and their health, e.g. people who live in damp housing have a higher incidence of respiratory health problems (Farell et al.
Pollution may be a threat, but it can be solved in our
Social causation of disease is described as the origin of illness that results from social environment, social interactions, or social factors. On the other hand, biological factors are not the only cause of disease as social causation and presume that social factors such as socioeconomic status (SES), religion, and social networks have an effect on the severity of illness and mortality. The idea that social interaction and culture play a major role in the causation of disease has been present in social thought since the discussion of the interaction between politics and mortality. Social causes of disease can be divided into fundamental causes and proximate lifestyle causes ( Link & Phelan, 1995). Nevertheless, causes of illness can directly
This essay will give a clear overview of the concept and theories of structural violence and how the idea can be used to encourage more attention on the fundamental cause of poverty and disease. It will as well look at how structural violence has an impact on illness and health. Furthermore, how clinician can lessen the effect of structural violence. The term violence conveys an image of physical or emotional assault on a person.
It might seem okay at first, but soon developments will slow down, stopping. A plan of making a better world backfires and eventually leaves the world crumbling apart slowly. In relation to this is how poverty causes environmental issues. Another huge problem of the world are environment issues like global warming and pollution. There are ways to stop this.
Marine pollution such as presence of organic matter in the ocean can result in the condition known as hypoxia or oxygen depletion and this can have adverse effect on the marine life including plant and animals and fish. Death of these fish can result in loss of millions of US dollars that are generate from the fishing industry. Marine pollution can also result in presence of foul smell resulting from the decomposing sewage being directed to the ocean and this has the effects to hinder recreational activities taking place in the sea as well as cause discomfort and breathing problem to the surrounding population (Laura, 11).marine pollution can also result in danger to human health. The human swimmers and water sport lovers can become endangered by swimming in the polluted marine waters (Laura,
Introduction: Our earth is the most precious gift of the universe. It is the sustenance of ‘nature’ that is the key to the development of the future of mankind. It is the duty and responsibility of each one of us to protect nature. It is here that the understanding of the ‘environment’ comes into the picture. The degradation of our environment is linked with the development process and the ignorance of people about retaining the ecological balance.
As the result of my experience this semester I can conclude that this experience was a life changing experience. The way I viewed things in the past about the environment has changed. In the past I was not aware of the importance of living a more sustainable life. Also, how protecting our environment is one of the today’s most serious issues. Some of issues and information that I learned throughout this semester was the web life, food web, overpopulation, mutualism & commensalism, climate change, pollution, rainforest & sea destruction, and the extinction of many animals and plants.
There are many problems that threatens society and one problem in particular, air pollution is a problem that threatens everyone. Air pollution is the contamination of air with pollutants that are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment. It began to be a problem when humans discovered the uses of fire and then the amount of air pollution exponentially grew after the industrial revolution, and is still a problem even today. The largest causes of air pollution are from human activities such as burning of fossil fuels and gas emissions from manufacturing plants. There are ways that ordinary people can help contribute to prevent air pollution and or else face the dangerous consequences of polluted air.
