In my paper I am discussing the debate of abortion in terms of induced, which is the intentional termination of pregnancy through drugs or surgery, and therapeutic, that is the abortion performed to preserve the life and health of the mother. In this paper, I take a strong stance against the acceptance of abortion both legally and socially. The main arguments used against pro-life (support for the abolishment of abortion), is based on the valuing of life. To those who are pro-choice (liberals, etc. ), argue that it is the woman’s choice to decide whether or not to have an abortion based on the grounds of valuing her life.
Nancy could based her decision that she has already have an abortion and it would be morally irresponsible for her to have another. That would allow her to think that other women can still an abortion but not her. Another way, could be that Nancy could consider her motive for an abortion to be immoral. Nancy could be aware although not perfect, her fetus has the potential to have a healthy and happy life. In that aspect, Nancy could fall in the group of moderates who believe that abortion are only allowed under certain circumstances and for Nancy a fetus with Down Syndrome could simply not fall under those circumstances.
If so, it leads to what's call P.A.S.S Post Abortion Stress Syndrome. According to www.afterabortion.com why abortion in America has become a social problem “P.A.S.S. Is a type of Post traumatic stress disorder which develops when a woman is unable to work through her emotional responses resulting from the trauma of an abortion. Abortion has turned into something that women are being coerced into from boyfriends/husbands unwilling to be fathers, out of fear of the financial pressure, out of panic from losing their jobs, out of panic from having to quit school, or become homeless, or out of fear of their parents kicking them out into the street.an abortion. P.A.S.S.
The audience recognizes that although abortion is cruel, it is needed. However, abortion itself is also cruel considering that it is also unfair to kill the fetus before it was born. Here, we can understand Sallie Tisdale’s inner conflict. She states that “[a]bortion is the narrowest edge between kindness and cruelty” (Tisdale 420). If she shows kindness to the women who wants to abort their children, the fetus would have to be killed.
Having troubles during an abortion could lead to one have troubles later in life when they want to get pregnant. Dr. Geetha Venkat, the director of Harley Street Fertility Clinic, explains that if difficulties arise during your abortion, then it is more likely that you will have a harder time getting or even staying pregnant later (“How An Abortion Affects ...”). This is due to multiple problems that may arise in one’s abortion. A woman may either have a pelvic infection or scarring of the womb or Fallopian tube, which can make it hard for the egg to travel to the uterus (“Does a past termination...”). Abortions affect the reproductive organ making it possible that complications may arise later.
Race also plays into differing situations. A white woman would be given more options while a Black women would most likely be met with criticism due to stereotypes and controlling images of Black women having a lot of kids and being “welfare queens”. White women receiving abortions are the “good” kind of abortions because as disclosed in The Only Good Abortion is My Abortion, the health and life of the mother is in question. With other women of less fortunate financial situations and have the stereotypes attached to them, their abortions are bad because the women receiving them are “Jezebels” who can not seem to keep their legs
Abortions have always been and will probably be one of the most controversial topics that people do not agree on. There are two groups people think of pro-life and pro-choice. Pro-life supporters agree that life starts at conception so abortion at any stage of pregnancy is wrong. Murdering your child. They believe that life is important, and the life of the unborn baby has the same rights
Today in the world woman are being ridiculed and looked down upon for their decision in having an abortion. If abortions were made illegal women would resort to reckless and unsafe procedures which would cause permanent damage to themselves or risk dying from it. Women should always have the right to have a safe abortion. There are multiple viable reasons for why it would be deemed acceptable to continue with an abortion. Taking into consideration the mothers future and current health, weather the baby was conceived of rape, and if the mother is emotionally and financially capable of taking care of the baby and giving it a good life.
Thank goodness for the Stroking Initiative, that wonderful law that allows girls like her a far better alternative.” This shows that since they were no longer allowed to have abortions- because a war was fought over reproductive rights- they could just leave babies on doorsteps to get rid of them. Another piece of evidence is on page 224 which says, “ ‘Then we proposed the idea of unwinding, which would terminate unwanteds without actually ending their lives. The Bill of Life was signed, The Unwind Accord went into
Human rights, the choice of adoption, and Post Abortion Syndrome are three good examples on why abortion should be illegal. The unborn child deserves to have a chance at life just as much as any other human being. Whether the child grows up with the birth family or an adoptive family, the child is still experiencing life rather than death. Why have an abortion when in the end it could cause the mother more damage than happiness? Before having an abortion all women should consider the advantages, disadvantages, and possible side effects very carefully.
