Consumers are exposed to many products in their daily life, therefore it is significant to ensure that those products are safe to be used, do not cause harm to humans, the environment, and/or financial assets. The main objective of the article is to describe a new product life cycle model that contributes to efficient product safety performance, specification, and decision making.
Product or system safety is defined as the application of engineering and management principles, criteria and techniques throughout all phases of the system life cycle to achieve acceptable hazard risk, within the constraints of cost, schedule, and performance. The increasing awareness on a product’s reliability and safety aspects has resulted in the inclusion of product safety requirements in several laws, regulations and standards. According to the article, the essential requirements to health and safety products are

However, it is relatively hard to get rid of all the risks related to products as well as to control both the consequences of product hazards due to dangerous properties, design error or misuse of products and the probability of occurrence of a hazardous event.
Thus, in this article, the authors propose that applying product safety principles early and throughout the life cycle of the product can effectively meet the objectives of safety. A product’s life cycle ranges from the time the product is conceived until it is finally disposed. The model of Murphy has 8 phases with different activities. In each phase, the producer must carry out specific tasks to achieve the desired product

The objective of the hazard identification is to identify the presence of potential hazards that are posed during operation of the plant, then suggest corresponding control measures to reduce risk or mitigate impacts on work force. Main hazards that we take into consideration are chemical hazards, electrical hazards, vibration and noise related hazards. 6.2.1 Chemical hazards The chemical hazards are those posed by chemical components and products used in the process. The main hazards associated with the process are that of natural gas or carbon dioxide leakage, high temperature and pressure steam, and potassium carbonate.
