PROSTITUTION
The term prostitution is not a word that is new to us. The term is usually a label used to identify people who engage in sexual activities as a source of livelihood and daily income. Prostitution is an ancient activity and is described as one of the oldest activity women engaged in and has been called ‘world’s oldest profession’. This type of sexual activity is so common it is referred to as ‘normal’ deviance. (tepperman 2006).
What really is prostitution?
Prostitution is simply the act of being paid in order to give or provide sexual pleasures to individuals mostly strangers or as they call them ‘customers’. People simply know the shallow stories of what happens in the lives of prostitutes and how they conduct or run their businesses. The general public usually assumes that prostitutes are usually along roads at dark or wee hours of the night wearing skimpy clothes that are appealing to

The research was done in 2006 and the article showed a case study of one girl (Annie) at age 15and a mother of one , who was selling herself in order to make a living. She comes from a good lower-middle class family background in Mtwapa and she says she got involved in the act simply because her father could not provide for her as she quotes “But he does not provide enough for me and my daughter, so I have to do this to make some extra cash.” She continued to say that each act with her customers would range from $3 to $8 which is about 250-700 shillings. She states that her peers influenced her to join them in being sex workers since she had dropped out of school.
Like Annie, most people in Kenya start being sex workers at a very young age and are mostly lured into it by their peers. In such scenarios you find that the environment around them is a hub for breading prostitutes especially if they come from a tourist location area like Mtwapa or
People in South America or in Africa, need money so they won’t think twice about working for sex. This program goes to countries and offers therapy sessions, so they know when someone is trying to take advantage. Victims in other countries believe that this was the best thing for them and they were glad that they got help. About 1 million people were victims of human trafficking in Africa, but in 2017 about 700,000 people were trafficked (Evaluation Office, 2012). Significantly, in the countries they travel to, they have seen a decrease in victims.
Consequently, we have all asked these questions, what present prostitution? Should it be completely forbidden or overlooked? And should an economical method be used to help sustain the economy
Sex Trafficking is a form of modern day slavery that exists throughout the United States and globally. It is one of the biggest lies in society (Farley et., 2014). The Vanderbilt Law Review indicates that the majority of prostitutes do not enter the prostitution lifestyle on their own free will choice, but instead becomes a prostitute due to a variety of vulnerabilities that both pimps and traffickers exploit. This explains why young women get blindsided and think they are becoming a prostitute when in reality they are a sex trafficking victim (Elrod 2015). When the United States made prostitution illegal, it did not change the mentality of the johns.
Prostitution is a widely recognized topic, anyone and anywhere can get involved into this line of work with just one thing, themselves. Do the men, women and children really have a choice whether or not they want to use their bodies to earn a living? Or are they forced by outside influences that make them have no other choice. Preliminary research covered numerous topics about prostitution; When the victims started and why they started was not uncovered by these findings. There have not been a sufficient interviews with these subjects to
The infectious disease of prostitution that has poisoned the population of sex workers can only be alleviated through the criminalization of its nature. The idea that prostitution is merely the exchange of sexual services for money is what buries the reality of sexual violence deep into the ground. Often, sex workers will be coerced to surrender their power to the hands of their client. In Canada, sex workers are stalked as prey by the treacherous monster of sexual abuse. They are enslaved into a sexual commodity and are stripped of their basic human rights.
Most states in the United states have a band on prostitution, however there are some parts of the united states that prostitution is legal. Prostitution is something that's seen as morally incorrect. However, some people are prostituted not for pleasure but for need. Some people are told that they have to enter this horrible business or else they could be killed or their family could be killed. Everyone thinks that women prostitute themselves because they want too, but many are not in that position.
And since the customers in strip clubs are also men, the idea that “men are more powerful and dominant than women” is further reinforced because they are the ones being served at in strip clubs; they were the ones paying the female strippers. These lead men to treat women as weaker and lower than them. Prostitutes and whores are words which pertain to women who do this kind of ‘job’. In countries like the Australia and New Zealand, the term sex work is the most accepted term they use to pertain to this kind of job, however here in the Philippines, the term prostituted woman is used to pertain to those who strip and dance in strip clubs (Ditmore 2006).
Prostitution Prostitution can be defined as the provision of sexual services for money. The word “prostitute” became common in the of 18th century. During the ancient times this kind of services had been supplied for economic rewards mainly by courtesans, concubines or slaves. Courtesans and concubines often held high positions in traditional societies. The main feature of modern prostitution is that women and men tend not to know each other.
Over the years there have been many controversial ethical issues which are still debated in the 21st century. In today’s modern society one such controversial issue is prostitution. Prostitution can be defined as “The act or practice of engaging in sexual intercourse for money” (Deigh, 2010, p.29). Prostitution is the oldest profession of all. However the ethics of prostitution is still unclear between many societies.
Those trafficked at younger ages and having spent a longer time in brothels was slightly more likely to become infected with the HIV virus. These findings demonstrate the need for increased attention to HIV among young victims of sex trafficking in research and practice. It is difficult to determine the absolute rates of HIV infection among trafficked persons and little research has been done to determine whether these rates are higher than those of non-trafficked prostituted women or than those in the general
Human trafficking, or trafficking in persons (TIP) or modern day slavery, is a heinous and widespread crime occurring around the world in nearly every society. Most people often thought slavery was part of the past; however, human slavery is part of our current society and has been an on-going issue around the world. Human trafficking is a type of slavery that involves forced or bonded labour, sexual servitude, child labour, or involuntary servitude all over the world. It is important to note that sex trafficking contributes to more than half of human trafficking and most of these victims are women and young girls. This modern day slavery can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at anytime (Ton, 2012).This literature review of documents and reports
This sort of sexual exploitation in the form of human trading, is bring notoriety to its name and a lot of countries consider Pakistan as one of the major trafficker and blame it as a reason for this ghastly crime accompanying other countries and even United States Department of state recently raised a finger at Pakistan for being a base area of this deplorable business. Poverty is the leading cause of this slavery, and it’s evident that poverty leads to uneducation resulting in increased unemployment giving rise to such trafficking cases in society. Besides human trafficking is one of those serious crimes which is globally considered as the major cause of a fact that majority of the people carrying HIV/AIDS virus are women. Many women and children are unaware of risks associated when they intentionally opt for selling their bodies.

Prostitutes are people, too. Prostitution is such a complex issue; no one ever scratches the surface of sex work. Prostitution is commonly known as the world 's oldest profession yet has been outlawed in forty-nine out of the fifty states in the United States. Legal-prostitution can require all sex workers to practice safe sex as well as get tested frequently to reduce the spread of diseases. Reduction of violence against women starts with the availability of sex.
The United Nations’ Convention held in 1949, stated prostitution to be “incompatible with human dignity”. According to the Oxford Dictionary, prostitution is defined as "The practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment." Often referred to as the “oldest profession” in the world, prostitution has become a burning issue in today’s world. The ongoing debate on whether to legalize, criminalize or decriminalize prostitution seems to be quite unresolvable. This paper investigates the negative impacts of legalizing prostitution such as 1) encouragement of prostitution, 2) increase in the incidence of human trafficking and 3) exposure of prostitutes to severe harm such as drug abuse, infection from sexually transmitted diseases and violence, which clearly supports the fact that prostitution should not be legalized.
