Educators are people that parents put their trust in when coming to their learners, as educators we must always make sure that the safety of learners comes first because at the end of the day we are to be blamed. Teachers must always be in loco parentis position. As a teacher my eyes must always be opened and I must make sure that I create a safe and secure environment that is safe for learners. School safety is a serious measure that every school should take into consideration. Every school must have policies and measures to make sure that both educators and learners are safe when they are in the school premises.
I plan to achieve this by evaluating and understanding the children’s potential, making them part of the decision making process in stimulating their own learning environment. The curriculum in my kindergarten is a teacher-structured approach. I would like to make a transition towards a child-centered curriculum in which the teaching allows to work with children in small groups. The Reggio Emilia’s approach allows flexibility and yet maintains the consistency of learning. I would plan activities with a range of different materials and resources.
