Safety of the public, patients and staff is paramount and crucial to avoid more accidents. The following factors of threats can potentially harm us. Natural environment (soil, air, water) The regulation of fresh air and enough ventilation is needed in the hospital for the well-being of the staff, patients and public. Water supply might not be ideal for drinking or consumption, thus affecting the patients in the hospital as water need to be filtered and rationed in order to meet the demand of all patients. Extra water filtration devices have to be bought in this case. The growth of harmful bacteria in the soil will affect the air we breathe in. Especially when the public sit on benches outdoors, exposing themselves to the bacteria will directly affect their health. Soil bacteria like C. tetani spores are common in Singapore’s hot weather climate and it will cause tetanus (Wiki). Infectious wastes can come in different ways; pathogenic or pharmaceutical. Without proper sanitation and disposal, bacteria from the waste will spread to the patients or the staff handling them. Pathogenic waste that comes from humans and carcasses can spread harmful bacteria just by inhalation, accidental skin contact or even ingestion, thus it must be kept properly. Pharmaceutical wastes, such as used or contaminated needles and fluid bags, must be disposed properly into the yellow hazardous bin.
