In the article "heads up: concussions in high school sports", it exemplifies how high school athletes are more vulnerable to concussions and may take longer to recover based upon immaturity of the central nervous system, the lack of recognition that a concussion has occurred, and the reliability of symptoms. The document, "concussion: potential causes and long-term impact", supports the conclusion of how repeated injuries can result in permanent brain damage. If an athlete where to experience a concussion more than once, then these effects can be permanent. The damage can affect them in other careers too. This is why it is important to let athletes have more recover time for concussions: another concussion occurring in that same time frame can alter their mental status and the team may loose that athlete forever.

Sarah played on the varsity soccer team as a goalie and one day at practice while blocking the ball with her head she received a concussion. After the incident, she needed to take time off of school due to difficulty focusing, it took her four months to recover. Once she returned, she was put on a 504 plan, a plan designed to ensure students are accommodated for disabilities. As a result of not only students like Sarah but professional athletes as well, all 50 states have passed concussion safety laws that require athletes, parents, and coaches to be educated on concussions. These laws also mandate any athlete suspected of having a concussion be immediately taken out of a game or practice.
Concussions can cause serious harm to your brain and affect it long term if you don 't allow your brain time to heal properly. Student athletes are more prone to concussions than older people and take longer for their brains to heal. Athletes recovering from a concussion should be required by law to sit out for extended periods of time to recover fully. Athletes in high school could suffer from severe consequences from a brain injury if returned to play early and they could suffer long term effects if they don 't allow their brain to thoroughly heal. Other people might think that students should be able to decide when they feel healed enough to return to activities, or that students can wear protective gear when they play to keep their head safe and minimize any injury chances.

When one hears "school security" these days, the word that goes with it is "tighten." Indeed, given both external threats and unruly (sometimes violent) student behavior, it makes sense to think that the most sensible course of action is to err on the side of more stringent measures, harsher sanctions and less permissive administration. It largely comes down to liability - whenever an individual with a history of troubled or criminal behavior snaps or becomes involved in an incident severe enough to attract government or media attention, many of the questions asked in the aftermath are variations on "why was this person not in jail. " The same applies to schools, where administrators often end up having to justify themselves to parents and
