The clock ticks sixty times, marking one more minute until the bell rings, but wait! Another class period has been added to your schedule and you’re stuck in school for another hour and a half. Sadness and exhaustion had taken over you as you slump in your chair, disappointed that you are away from home for more time, how tragic. The school board has been thinking about adding another hour and a half to the regular school hours, increasing the amount of time you’re in class. Should they add more time? School hours should stick to the way it already is because adding more time would cost more expenses, affect students’ after school activities, and it doesn’t help the way students get work done and learn.
To begin with, increasing the time having to be in school will cost more money to be spent. First of all, teachers would have to more school supplies for fun activities for the extra students they would have to teach. Usually, educators love to decorate their classroom and hold fun activities that require their money to be spent for the materials that were needed to be bought. Buying supplies is not free and having to buy more items for another class will affect the money in their wallet. In addition, the school’s budget will decrease because of the money being used on

After seeing all the information that it shouldn’t, no. School should not be continued more into the day because of many reasons. Including more time will be costly, ruin one’s daily schedule, and it does no great effect on a child’s learning. The beliefs of students actually getting more work done after getting stressed out because of the work are inaccurate and are needed to be looked back on with actual students who are stressed because of extra school hours. In the end, why think more time for school is a good thing? Asking for more help can occur after school! There is no need for the school day to be longer just for extra help on a little
On these days, the extra hour helps me to trudge through the school day and the long hours of activities I have afterward with some energy left to spare. If one hour keeps me energized throughout the day, then imagine an extra hour on school mornings everyday. For this reason, implementing a later start and end time in high schools across the country will not only benefit students mentally but also
However, it doesn’t mean they have to push school times 2 hours later, “The AAP guidelines said that only 25 minutes would make a difference in your health and academic performance”. It doesn’t mean that school have to push back hours, they could just do 25 minutes and it would make a
With times being pushed later students can get the recommended amount of sleep for their age(8-10 hours each night). Clearly, when school starts later into the day, it has a very positive effect on the students attending the
By having school get out earlier it would allow more time not only for after school activities but for homework as well. “Giving students more time after school to do homework would not only decrease stress level, but could improve the quality of work too” says Rachael D., an author for the (Huffington Post). This would also give students more study time and time to complete assignments. The third reason I think the school day should be shortened is because it would make the class periods shorter.
Schools Should Start At A Later Time Did you know that 97% of students in a recent survey agree that schools should start later? I think that schools should start later for these reasons. First, if students got to sleep longer, students would have less of a chance of getting depressed . It would also put the students health at risk for many health problems. It would also increase students test scores, and grades, because they will be more awake during class If schools that start early started later, their students would be more awake in class, getting better grades, and would not be at risk of as many health problems.
First of all schools should not start later because it would affect after school activities. If school started later it would affect the kids who are more involved. Later start times would mean later end times. If school started later it would cut into family dinner and other family activities. If school did change their start times then teens would just go to bed later.
Many people argue whether school start times should stay the same or become later in the day. Most students already don't get enough sleep during the night and that can affect their learning experience in school (Wahlstrom). However some positive effects can still come from waking up early in the morning and getting to school around the same time. Although good can come from waking up early in the morning and sleeping in, students still need later school starting times to improve their overall health.
If schools were too just delay school by 30 minutes it would improve the student's health and grades.
Finally, if school started later it would be more convenient for students’, parents,
According to the National Sleep Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes public understanding of sleep and sleep disorders, starting school later is an adequate way for students to have a better memory, behavior, attention, mood, and executive function. The National Sleep Foundation states “, A National Sleep Foundation poll reported that 28% of teenagers have fallen asleep in class at least once due to lack of sleep. Negative effects of sleep loss include impairments in mood, attention, memory, behavior and executive function… increase in caffeine use… sleep deprived-teens at higher risk of car accidents.” This means that by just adjusting the time by an hour students are more aware of their surroundings, more focused on what they’re learning, have a better mood, and executive function, and it reduces the amount of sugary snacks they have eat or drink to stay awake.
To keep schools running 5 days a week is such a high cost that really isn’t affordable. This causes budget cuts and that makes for a lower quality learning experience”. That shows just by shorting the hours and days students go to school makes a big impact in the amount of money being saved. To add on to why schools should be shorter is the amount of sleep students get a day. Have you ever thought about how much sleep your child is getting or in better words how much sleep is your child missing.
Debate essay Ask anyone and I’m pretty sure they would tell you they want longer weekends. Students start looking forward to 3pm on Friday the minute their alarm wakes them up on Monday morning. Weekends are opportunities for students to let go of stress and to focus on the activities they enjoy. Some people just want longer weekends because they’re too lazy or busy. Longer weekends would make school more and exciting for students because it would give them more opportunities for self-directed work.
Although this could result in students being in school 30 minutes longer it gives them the opportunity to complete some tasks that would cause them stress later that
I gained this information at Debate.org which also says “Image how much stress it would be on all students and the poor teachers! What about them and how are we suppoed to pay for three hours, they already stay at school planning so will have no time left at all!” On a website called Education.seattlepi.com says that other people that extend the time of school isn’t going too give students more learning, it also says that “If the methods used currently aren’t working, spending more time using those same methods isn’t going to change
Clearly, if it makes this much of a difference, why don’t all schools do it? That is a huge jump in math especially. This also shows that students become much better by increasing the amount of hours in a school day. Also, the same article on Reading Rockets also suggests that teachers get to answer students’ questions and many students enjoyed the longer school day. The teachers answering students’ questions help the students understand the material better.
