School Improvement Have you ever imagined a perfect school? Our current school is probably lacking all of those attributes. School would be so much better than now and maybe we would actually enjoy going if we changed the school. Lots of people aren’t satisfied with our school overall. Because of that, we should improve the school by adding and changing the classes, changing the day’s structure, and having more school interactions.
Several things should be changed about our current classes. First of all, we need to have a bigger variety of classes that we can take. People who take the normal four exploratories probably aren’t interested in some of the classes. If we had more of a choice, then students might start to look forward to coming

School should definitely start later. Their brains would function better and they would be more awake to pay attention in class. Students would probably stop dozing off and falling asleep if school started later. Another reason why school should start later is because students would get more sleep. Depending on how far away students live from the school, they would have to wake up as early as five so they can get ready and catch their bus on time. Lots of the students here are probably sleep deprived because they can’t fall asleep at night probably from stress, anxiety, insomnia, or even just homework. Students also have their extracurricular activities that make them have to push homework aside and do it later causing them to stay up late. If school started later, then students would be able to regain the sleep they need and function better at school. Another thing that should be changed about the school day is to give us a longer lunch. You would think that about forty-five minutes would be long enough but most people get school lunches and have to wait a long time before they can actually get their lunch. Being the last zone called only gives you around 15 minutes or less to eat and clean your table. When you only get 15 minutes left to eat then you can’t really socialize with your friends anymore because you are eating. The last thing that should be changed about our school day structure are the passing periods. Our
Last month I fell asleep in class because I was so tired from having to wake up early to go to school. I just couldn’t stay awake in class, because I had to wake up at 5:45 for school and go to school. I was so embarrassed, because the teacher had to wake me up in front of the whole class, and everyone was laughing at me. I am always so scared to go to that class because I feel I will fall asleep and everyone will laugh at me just like they did before. Schools should start later because students will be more attentive, they will get better grades and have a higher chance of graduating.
School should Start Later School districts should make a change to their schedule. School starting later would fix a bunch of huge problems about school districts. Some people may say that school starting early isn’t that bad though, it would just be annoying to wake up early. School districts should change their time because of the bus arrival times, the education of students, and sleep concerns of kids.
School Should Start Later A recent poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation found that 60% of children under the age of 18 complained of being tired during the day, according to their parents, and 15% said they fell asleep at school during the year. This proves that kids aren’t getting enough sleep before school. I believe that a later middle school start time would have many beneficial effects on kids. As a result, kids would be more focused in class because they would be getting more sleep, that would lead to better grades, and finally reduced absenteeism.
Sleeping Schools Countless students all over the US struggle to keep their eyes open throughout the day because school classes start too early in the morning. If we were able to give an hour to students in the morning, we would see an increase in their physical mentality, their academic skill level, and an overall happier lifestyle. Many people will argue that starting school too late in the morning will cause after school activities -- such as sports and other clubs -- no time to meet before the night ends. But I must mention that we don’t need to push the start time that much later to see a huge improvement on student’s test scores, overall grades, and a student’s mood. The current school start time is unacceptable when thought about logically, and we must make the changes to have school start at a later time.
To begin with teenagers usually need 8.5 hours of sleep a day. Not enough sleep for students has gone to far. 22,000 kids all across the USA are stressed and tired for school. School should start later because starting school early is not just a student complaint, it's an observation backed up by science. Studies have shown the brain doesn't properly function until two hours after students leave there rooms in the morning.
According to “Should Schools Start Later?” by Junior Scholastic, “A later start, say opponents, also interferes with some teens part time jobs” (Scholastic 21). If schools start later, it would interfere with the teens work schedule. This would then cause the teens to be early on their shift and mess up a lot of people, which could result in them getting fired from their job. If schools stayed to the usual time schedule it would not cause any mix ups or confusion.
Many people argue whether school start times should stay the same or become later in the day. Most students already don't get enough sleep during the night and that can affect their learning experience in school (Wahlstrom). However some positive effects can still come from waking up early in the morning and getting to school around the same time. Although good can come from waking up early in the morning and sleeping in, students still need later school starting times to improve their overall health.
If schools were too just delay school by 30 minutes it would improve the student's health and grades.
21% of teen motor vehicle accidents are caused by drowsy driving. Many teens everyday are complaining about their school start times being way too early. Teen tiredness is now considered to be a public health pandemic. School starting at a later time is beneficial because it helps students catch up on sleep. It helps students stay out of trouble.
These things will improve one’s health. In addition to improving one’s health, it is also better for one’s concentration. The average student needs about ten hours of sleep; however, most students, especially teens, only get around seven hours of sleep. If school started later students would be able to sleep in and therefore get more sleep which would increase their concentration in class.
According to the National Sleep Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes public understanding of sleep and sleep disorders, starting school later is an adequate way for students to have a better memory, behavior, attention, mood, and executive function. The National Sleep Foundation states “, A National Sleep Foundation poll reported that 28% of teenagers have fallen asleep in class at least once due to lack of sleep. Negative effects of sleep loss include impairments in mood, attention, memory, behavior and executive function… increase in caffeine use… sleep deprived-teens at higher risk of car accidents.” This means that by just adjusting the time by an hour students are more aware of their surroundings, more focused on what they’re learning, have a better mood, and executive function, and it reduces the amount of sugary snacks they have eat or drink to stay awake.
In the end, changing school times is definitely not a simple process, but is it worth it? Despite the changes that would have to take place, it may be worthwhile to achieve the results that some schools have accomplished by delaying their start time half an hour (Burke 37). Schools should have later start times because it would let students get more sleep, improve their performance, and keep them healthier. If school start times continue to be outrageously early, there may be serious repercussions to students of all ages
Public school funding Increasing school funding is very important in today’s future American students. Education should be one of the top priorities in the United States to make sure every student has the same opportunity to get the same great education. Increasing public school funding be beneficial for outdated textbooks, lack of technology, and increases more resources for students. These resources would be crucial of generating students of America. These students are the workers, leaders, and inspirations of future America.
Education Reforms Education reform is legislation to improve the quality of education in the United States. Once, grades were the most important achievement for students. However, politicians and the public were concerned that our standardized test scores were not as good as those of other countries. Therefore, state and national governments started making laws to make school more challenging and to test kids more. One of those laws was “No Child Left Behind”.
Everyone involved in our life has helped raise and teach us about almost everything as they all played a role in our lives. But how exactly did they play a role in our lives? In my opinion, they educated us on things that our time in school did not. In school, they teach us the same four subjects each year: English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. However, they are not teaching us things that we would have to learn from experience later in our lives.
